Sen. Susan Collins said Kavanaugh sees Roe v. Wade as 'settled law'
Source: Washington Post
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh told Sen. Susan Collins on Tuesday that Roe v. Wade was "settled law," the Maine Republican told reporters after their meeting.
Collins, who supports abortion rights, said she raised the issue with Kavanaugh, who is meeting with senators ahead of his confirmation hearings next month."We talked about whether he considered Roe to be settled law," Collins said, referring to the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that established a woman's right to terminate her pregnancy.
Collins said Kavanaugh told her that he agreed with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., who said during his 2005 confirmation hearing that Roe was "settled as a precedent of the court." Collins and Kavanaugh met for more than two hours on Tuesday morning. "He said that he agreed with what Justice Roberts said at his nomination hearing, in which he said it was settled law. We had a very good, thorough discussion," Collins said.
The senator has not said whether she will support Kavanaugh, but she has also declined to offer strong criticism of President Trump's nominee. With Republicans holding a slim 51-to-49 Senate majority, support from Collins and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) would ensure Kavanaugh's confirmation.

(2,062 posts)Ok so then, I want every democrat Senator to ask at his confirmation hearing if he feels Roe v Wade is settled, and if he will vote in the positive. If he says no a,d then does it, he is guilty of lying to the Senate and can be impeached or charged with contempt of Congress.
EVERY DEMOCRAT SENATOR NEEDS TO ASK AND GET HIS COMMENTS ON RECORD.....NO BS BEATING AROUND THE BUSH.....ANSWERS.

settled law? Someone should tell Susan Collins and Kavanaugh the law was settled decades ago... that's how the Supreme Court works. Now, Kavanaugh can go ahead and unsettle it, if he wants; that's also how the Supreme Court works.

(2,574 posts)It's all in plain sight & in your face public record, Sen Collins. Here's three googles for you:
Just recently This theocratic zealot(loon) fiercely fought ag & dissented his Circuit's decision to allow an immigrant minor rape victim to have an abortion;
Kavanaugh's dissent in a famous case of forced abortion,sterilization by the government(he's essentially unconditionally in favor of giving the state total power over the disabled) also, at its foundation, argued the state's rights to overrule individual self determination;
And Kavanaugh, like Gorsuch, is vehemently against any right to die legislation for the terminally ill.
Susan Collins had better start googling Kavanaugh before she runs interference and votes for this monster. It's time for her to start understanding that abject cruelty of the government over individual physical sovereignty ..from birth to death.. is Kavanaugh's ideology and his own "settled law" shown i his written opinions and dissents for decades.
Kavanaugh just like Gorsuch is lying when he says that he would uphold SCOTUS "settled law". And Collins ignorance is simply indefensible. Kavanaugh's records is all there in plain sight.
