The Latest: Suspect worked at farm tied to Republican farmer
Source: Seattle Post Intelligencer
The immigrant from Mexico charged in the kidnapping and murder of an Iowa college student worked at a dairy farm owned by the family of a prominent state Republican leader.
Yarrabee Farms said in a statement that Cristhian Bahena Rivera had worked at its farms for the last four years and was an employee in good standing. The company said it was shocked to hear that Rivera had been charged in the death of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts.
Spokesman Dane Lang said Tuesday night that Yarrabee Farms is a "small family farm" owned by him and his father, Craig Lang, who has long been a prominent Iowa farmer and political figure.
Craig Lang previously served as president of the Iowa Farm Bureau and president of the Iowa Board of Regents, which governs the state's public universities. In June, he lost a close GOP primary in the race for state agriculture secretary.

I feel unseemly posting something like this, but if you saw any of the right-wing nutjobs over the past 24 hours, they were playing a disgusting game of "king-of-the-hill" to see who could stand atop this young woman's grave for political gain.
Although this "should" be that last thing that one is concerned with regarding this terrible and senseless killing, this should put a damper on the sick fucking Retrumplicans that are going to use this girls murder to foster hatred.

(2,565 posts)It's interesting how this story is being used to connect to all kinds of different tangents by right-wing people.
For my tangent, I can't help but notice that this is news item #4 from yesterday of illegal activity by a prominent Republican. I wonder if Mr. Lang will be in trouble for not following the I-9 rules. Oh, the hypocrisy.
I could go on, but won't. The movie "A Day Without a Mexican" comes to mind.
May she rest in peace, regardless of the immigration status of the villain of the story.

(10,271 posts)See, if there were just not any Mexicans in the country, we Republicans wouldn't be able to hire any illegally now would we? So the obvious solution to this problem is for 'stronger' immigration laws, that let the gubmint do our moral thinking FOR US (but don't get all cocky with that shit, cause it sure shouldn't apply to gunz or 'bortions).
I didn't go read the mentioned Republican thread on this, so it might very well be there already. But if it's not just wait, it will be.

Prosecute the companies and individuals, in the US, that hire them intentionally.

(115 posts)I told you soing About illegal murderer. So Biggie Repub farmer said he worked in good standing for four years on their small family farm. They had no idea, blah blah blah. I say call him out for hipocracy, at the least. Fuck all Republicans. And may Mollie rest in peace. She was the victim here.

(1,123 posts)I hate to promote conspiracy theories, but it does seem a little odd that such an extremely high reward was generated for a missing person and the related media attention that was generated especially by Faux. Many people are reported missing and disappear everyday without hardly a mention by the media, but not in this case. Is it mere coincidence that the alleged prepetrator of this heinous crime just happens to be an immigrant and our Criminal-in-Chief has been constantly ranting about such and is in desperate need of a talking point to motivate his base? Was there any financial incentive for him to confess? It all seems a little too convenient. Just saying...
