Giuliani: Mueller 'has to be winding down'

Rudy Giuliani told The Washington Post on Wednesday that he believes special counsel Robert Mueller "might be at the end" of his investigation into Russian interference after his prosecutors won a conviction against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on eight of 18 counts.

Giuliani has frequently floated deadlines in the Mueller investigation without any indication that the special counsel is close to finishing his work. Giuliani has said multiple times that Mueller plans to finish his investigation by Sept. 1, but the special counsel has not commented publicly on the matter.

Mueller on Tuesday requested that sentencing for former national security adviser Michael Flynn be pushed back to Sept. 17, an indication that Mueller's work will extend into the fall. Flynn pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI as part of the special counsel's investigation.

Giuliani added on Wednesday that the president's legal team is considering its options in the wake of Michael Cohen pleading guilty to tax fraud, bank fraud and campaign finance law violations in a New York City court. Cohen testified that he violated campaign finance laws at the direction of a candidate for federal office, implicating President Trump.

that most of us couldn't even begin to guess, but I can picture a lot of very nervous people freaking out behind closed doors popping Xanax like M&Ms. I wonder how many other people will suddenly be taking vacations overseas to play golf.

There was someone from one of the papers on last night (I think he was on Ali Velshi-in-for-Ari's show or maybe Chris Hayes) where he said that he has been covering these "the end is near" deadlines for the past 8 months.

They all keep forgetting that Manafort has a 2nd trial currently scheduled for September 17th (in addition to the above-mentioned Flynn sentencing on the same day)... and then there are still folks hanging out there like Roger Stone, Assange, Carter Page, Jr., Maria Butrina, probably all of the NRA leadership, and Kushner. And now with this Drumpf Co. connection to campaign finance issues, you have that entity still to be investigated (further). PLUS there was mention again about the Novartis (and other companies) "pay to play" stuff with Cohen.

Didn't he already use that line a few times in the last year already?

I gather its some kind of deflated attempt to influence the public to get impatient and thus put pressure on Mueller and the DOJ to cause them to hastily wrap everything up and go forward not fully prepared. And maybe in doing so make a mistake that Trump's team can pounce on.

Good luck with that. Mueller is proving he is a 1000x the lawyer Rudy is.

when the prosecutors objected to a line of questioning of Rick Gates? And remember they then had a sidebar? And when they came back the defense went to another line of questioning? And then the judge sealed the sidebar conversation? Remember that? Because the judge said allowing it to be seen by the public "would reveal substantive evidence pertaining to an ongoing government investigation."

Hmmm. There is a bit of a gap there between "winding down" and "another ongoing investigation".

Trump is dragging all his grifter hangers-on down, so you just better hope you've kept your nose clean, because you KNOW they will be looking at you too.
