Trump on Impeachment: 'Markets Would Crash' and 'Everybody Would Be Very Poor'

Source: Mediaite

The midterm elections are roughly 11 weeks away, and the issue of impeaching President Donald Trump has become a talking point, especially on conservative-friendly media outlets. The GOP appears to be thinking that if they can successfully make the midterms a referendum on impeachment, they can do better, though the vast majority of Democrats have tamped down impeachment talk instead claiming that the Mueller investigation should first run its course.

This became a topic of conversation in Fox News exclusive with Ainsley Earhardt, who asked the President if he believes the Democrats will try to impeach him. His elliptical reply can best be summed up with “I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job. ” He added that if he ever got impeached “I think the market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor because without this thinking, you would see — you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe.”

He then mentioned Hillary Clinton, regulation, tax cuts and how poorly the economy would be had the “Democrats gotten in.”

Either he’s just lying for effect or he has deluded himself into believing that he alone is responsible for growth in the stock market—totally ignoring the healthy economy he inherited from Obama. The stock market will not crash because he’s gone—it might even be better because the tariff wars and trade policy are causing instability. Trump lies from habit and instinct, but I think he is also becoming more delusional.

Stock markets don't care about the economy anywhere near as much as they do about profits. If tRump's tax giveaway is imperiled they won't like it. But stopping the trade war and restoring trade will help the economy. So ordinary people outside of the 1% or 2% could see noticeable benefits (wages, costs, and employment).

The stock market and the economy are different things and a robust stock market does not necessarily affect the vast majority of people. If Trump was to be allowed to continue on the path he's on with tax cuts for the rich, trade wars, and tariffs there would eventually be a crash that would affect the economy world wide as well.

What is healthy about the economy right now is largely in spite of Trump, not because of him.

I know dipshit would say "No conclusion, no conclusion", but it's almost inevitable. The record long bull market just was set and so far, the orange anus has somehow managed to claim credit for it. It started in March 2009. so all he can truthfully claim is avoiding immediately driving into a bridge abutment.

but the extent and duration depends on the conditions at the time.

Constitutional crises are never good for the stock market. During the Watergate scandal, when Cox was fired and then-Attorney General Elliot Richardson resigned in protest — the S&P 500 fell 14% from October 1st through November.

But investors shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Nixon’s so-called Saturday Night Massacre took place while Wall Street was already mired in one of the worst bear markets in history. From January 1973 through August 1974 — a period that includes the conviction of the Watergate burglars, Nixon’s resignation, global oil shock, Middle East turmoil, and a dramatic spike in inflation — stocks lost 42% of their value.

The Clinton impeachment, however, did not have that effect:

The S&P 500 climbed slightly from July 1 to July 17 of 1998, but from there until the release of the Starr report on September 9, it fell by 19.4%, according to data from CFRA Research. After that, however, it rallied, recovering the entire decline by November 28, 1998, while impeachment proceedings were still underway but a month before a conclusion was reached.

"The Starr Report didn't have anything new that people weren't aware of already, so the market felt comfortable to move up again," said Seth Kaplowitz, a San Diego-based attorney and finance lecturer.

The only people that would be poorer are you and the 1% that you cater to in everything you do.
Besides, you don't have to worry because all your needs will be taken care of for you: clothes (orange jumpsuits), lodging, food, exercise, work requirements, etc. It's great, everybody knows it, I guarantee it!

ruin the project (see Atlantic City), create devastation, and then leave someone else holding the bag. This situation will be no different. This orange anus is neither an honorable person nor a person who respects the rule of law. This orange shitbag of a human will not go quietly into the night. If he's going down he's going to try and take us all down with him. It will take a mighty resolve for our country to survive the ending of this nightmare. I'm not sure we have it. One thing is for sure trump and the republicans must go. Whatever the consequences of that is we must have the courage and be ready to deal with it.
