McCaskill, Hawley walk tightrope in response to Manafort and Cohen

Source: St Louis Post Dispatch

While other Democratic senators say the bombshell court cases should trigger a delay in the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, McCaskill, D-Mo., said the Republican majority should move forward on them, just as they should have with President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland two years ago.

“While this is ultimately Mitch McConnell’s decision, we need consistency in how our Supreme Court nominees are handled — which we haven’t had. I favored moving forward with Judge Garland’s nomination process, I favored moving forward with Judge Gorsuch’s nomination process, and I feel the same way about Judge Kavanaugh,” McCaskill said.

McCaskill’s reaction comes as she tries to fend off a challenge by Republican Attorney General Josh Hawley in a state where Trump won by 19 points. The presence of Trump in the race has both candidates walking a tightrope as they try to stake out their positions on issues.

Rather than join calls for Trump’s impeachment, McCaskill said special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into obstruction of justice and potential ties between Trump campaign and Russian actors shouldn’t be blocked.

Missouri voters, or a significant subset of them. McCaskill is just doing what she has to given the state she's in.

Trump is an illegitimate PINO under investigation for violations of election laws and should not be allowed to pick a supreme court justice who could ultimately be his juror, or making lifetime appointments.
This has no comparison with blocking Obama's appointment what so ever as Garland was illegally blocked for no justifiable reason. He was not even allowed confirmation hearings...just not allowed on partisan grounds ... republicans just refused to do their job because they did not want Obama to pick a judge. If this Kavanaugh is confirmed our democracy is lost as the first thing this partisan prejudice candidate will do is finish gutting the election laws making it likely that dems will never hold a majority again. Dems should be doing everything within their power to block this confirmation...especially until after the election. McKaskill is my senator and I wish she would stop acting like this republican cult will ever be honest or act with integrity like she does. Trump is insane and hopelessly vindictive and dishonest and leads a cult of enablers who are packing the courts...don't help them senator. Block them in every way possible and save the 'what is right and be consistent' until you have an honorable opposition party who will act responsibly (Garland) .

then do the same thing and claim "the voters should choose" and refuse to confirm until after the presidential election just like senate republicans did to garland. That is "consistent"
