OOPS: Mitt Romney Calls United States A Company
By Annie-Rose Strasser on Aug 31, 2012 at 11:05 am
Mitt Romney is focused on convincing Americans that his private-sector business record qualifies him to be President, which is perhaps why he accidentally called the United States of America a company instead of a country on Friday.
While Romney has spoken extensively about running the government more efficiently, like a private business, he has never compared the entire American enterprise to an actual business enterprise. But today, at an event in Florida, Romney did just that, saying his administration will reach out to people who want to make sure this company deals with its challenges:
Paul Ryan and I understand how the economy works, we understand how Washington works, we will reach across the aisle and find good people who like us, want to make sure this company deals with its challenges. Well get America on track again.

(1,083 posts)Romney walks like he's walking on a wet floor and doesn't want to fall. If he has something seriously wrong with him I don't want to make jokes about it. It seems like Chris Matthews is the only other person I've heard comment on how Romney seems to glide like a robot. Maybe he's getting stiff in the physical sense of the word. Getting old is a bitch.
I don't think he is making a mental error when he keeps saying "company". His brain won't allow him to say anything else. It's been his whole adult life. But, dang, it is very scary.

(2,627 posts)stages of Alheimer's. Mrs, Mitt-Ann's job seems to be one of many spouses who don't want anyone to know what's happening to the person.
from Daily Kos:
Alzheimer's is no laughing matter and this Diary is not meant to be funny. I seriously wonder if Romney has Alzheimer's. In my opinion, he is showing the signs of a person who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's or some other type of dementia.
One of the early symptoms to Alzheimer's is short-term memory loss, forgetting what you recently said or did. Confusion and poor judgment are also early signs. In the early stages, the patient can still function in society but lacks good judgment so usually family members will step in to correct any problem the poor judgment may have caused.
For months, we have literally witnessed Romney say one thing, then within seconds tell the media he did not say it. Then we go back to the video, and sure enough, Romney said what we thought he said. Now, I know Romney is a pathological liar -- but I think there is something more going on.
I remember several, several times when Ann Romney has had to step in to correct comments Mitt has said and then the campaign puts Mitt on a Media Blackout.
If you watch Romney's face when he denies saying what he just said, Romney gets a confused and bewildered look in his eyes. It is the confusion on his face that makes me think he has Alzheimer's. Reagan, and other patients of Alheimer's would get that same look.

That had never even occurred to me but he is the right age to show symptoms, if he has it. I don't know, I tend to think it's not that at all but he accidentally said what he meant.

(53,661 posts)They get some non-profit working for them to shine on the public, then parcel it off. No more folks from the city coming out to get their share of natural beauty they paid taxes for, keep them out forever, I've even seen LTE in these wealthy suburbs say they don't deserve to visit the forests, period. What many people sacrifice to make a living in the cities, they pay taxes to keep civilized, but the reactionaries don't want them to enjoy it when they can hand it to their pals.
The theft of the commons is rapidly increasing and stratifying society. For the quick buck, people go along, until they are as trapped as the people of Europe were by the holdings of royalty. They want to confine the majority to slums, with a few wealthy fortresses, as south of the border and other countries, to be picked off one at a time or en mass as a nuisance.
They hate everyone who's not in the 1%. Sorry to sound gloomy, but history repeats itself. There is no reason to believe it can't or won't happen here. By 2050, the population of the USA is predicted to be a billion, three times more than it is now.
They want to steal from us every single thing while they can. I hate to think of the world we are going to leave our children, if we cannot pull together to work on keeping a humane society.
Medieval repression took several centuries to overcome. So will this, but we may be laying the groundwork for permanent global tyranny. It's not the future we had worked so hard to create, and it does not have to be this way.
We need philosophers, not priests or merchants to guide us, not the vulture capitalists. They are using media to create the illusion of the inevitability of an inhuman and wasteful dystopia.
We can adjust and do this the best way, but reactionaries are working to create fascistic state that will only advantage them. Ugh.

*Transfer the borrowed money to Bain as management fees. check (Borrow money to give tax cuts for the rich)
*Grab the pension funds and take them for management fees. (Using Social Security taxes to fund tax breaks for the rich and for corporations).
*Try to weasel out of paying the debts or pay them at pennies on the dollar; go bankrupt and stick the government with pension obligations. Not yet done, but Romney/Ryan are working on it, by seeking to avoid honoring social security obligations, which are a large chunk of the national debt. Unfortunately, there's no government to turn to for a bail out, so the Romney model fails at this point.

(662 posts)Well we finally know what the repugs/gop/tparty have been advocating for 30 years. "Have to run govt like a business, so that it will be more efficient, get rid of waste and all those ppl off of govt pensions". And of course, ppl like workers are on their own, they either make it or not, but that is not the problem of the business. If they don't work out, just fire and replace. And of course, give to those who give back. Privatize govt services to buddies, outsource jobs to gain cheaper products, forget regulations: so a few ppl die, Massey Mines didn't go to jail for the negligence connected with the death of 29 miners. they were expendable. Misuse the military to open oil fields and pave paths to American take over of other countries. Remember how Iraq would pay for the war with oil Revenues. Halliburtan didn't get the contract and americans never got paid back. Be sure that govt workers and regulators are in bed with industries they supervise, oversee; that way kickbacks welcomed and small things overlooked. WELL now you know what Running govt like a business looks like. Of course, outsourcing jobs, and hiding money in off shore bank accounts to avoid taxation is just smart business practices not treason.
And we have the GOP/TPARTY gloating over voter suppression in OH,PA,FL: loving TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION in MI where Emergency financial Managers dismantle democracy and sell off common good assets for a song. And of course, we have the Jan Brewer in AZ, proudly transferring funds from the ORGAN TRANSPLANT FUND for the poor to reward her private prison buddies. So a few ppl died, just collateral damage. It's govt/business in the US of America a new form of decadence never seen in history.

It even OFFICIALLY defines itself as such. Here is the specific area where that info can be found:
USC Title 28 Part VI Chapter 176 Subchapter A § 3002
To be more specific, the exact text in the definitions section listed above says:
(15) United States means
(A) a Federal corporation;
(B) an agency, department, commission, board, or other entity of the United States; or
(C) an instrumentality of the United States.
Seems QUITE clear to me. The TRUTH is the TRUTH
EDIT:

(1,920 posts)claiming that the "United States" and the "United States of
America" are both corporations. These claims are not correct,
for the reasons already stated above.
A similar error occurs when these so-called activists cite
the federal statute at 28 U.S.C. 3002 as their only proof
that the United States was incorporated by Congress.
Heres the pertinent text of that statute:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/28/3002.html
As used in this chapter:
...
(15) "United States" means --
(A) a Federal corporation;
(B) an agency, department, commission, board, or
other entity of the United States; or
(C) an instrumentality of the United States.
[end excerpt]
First of all, note well that the stated scope of this definition
is limited to this chapter i.e. CHAPTER 176 of Title 28
Federal Debt Collection Procedures. Overlooking the
limited scope of such definitions is a very common error
among many, if not all self-styled experts. At best, this section
cannot be used as evidence that the federal government
should be treated as a valid corporation for all other intents
and purposes. It takes a LOT more text than this one limited
definition to create any federal corporation! Compare the
original Statutes at Large that created the Union Pacific
Railroad Company, for example.
Secondly, from the evidence above it should already
be clear that the United States (federal government)
is not now, and never has been, a federal corporation.
The statute at 28 U.S.C. 3002 merely defines the
term United States to embrace all existing federal
corporations. Because the United States was not
an existing corporation when Congress enacted
section 3002, that statute did not create and could
not have created the United States as a federal
corporation in the first instance.

They listen to the emotional, fabricating blowhards in the media, convincing their dittohead followers that they deserve low wages, having their pensions ripped off and wall street can't function without deregulating. Maybe some should actually read some jefferson, lincoln and even eisenhower, how the power of corporations can lead to the voice of the people going bye-bye.
didn't mussolini say something like: "fascism is government and business WORKING AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE?"
We are suffering the consequence of having a so called "business" president. The worst business president ever (the only way he made moolah was having daddy's friends invest and alleged insider trading on his own damn company)--we do not need another heartless, greedy business president.
