Obama: There’s A Difference Between Republicans In Washington And GOP Voters

Source: TPM

In an exclusive interview with Parade set to hit newstands on Sunday, President Barack Obama suggested that it may be easier to achieve a consensus with Congressional Republicans in a second term if they espoused the views of the people who vote them into office.

Republican voters, if you ask them about my particular policy positions, often agree with me. So there’s a difference between Republicans in Washington and Republican and Republican-leaning voters around the country. I think that after this election, we’ll be in a position to once again reach out to Republicans and say that the American people have rendered a judgment, and the positions we’re taking are well within what used to be considered bipartisan centrist approaches.

And keep the Senate & win reelection...NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! I wish it would but unless something crazy happens in the next two months the best we can hope for is basically keeping things like they are now. We may gain seats in the House which I think we will but it really looks like the country will be held hostage for a while by the rural districts in the nation!

I don't mind Obama trying once again after the election to reach out to Republicans so that no one can say he never tried once being reelected...Then maybe if the GOP slaps his hand again we might be able to take the House in the midterm.

...Did he miss the part where he's a Non-Citizen, Kenyan, Socialist, Anti-War, Gun-grabbing, pro-abortion, anti-business tax-raiser and has a part time job as the Anti-Christ?

I'm also missing the part where being a centerist is good, but that's just me.

My brain hurts the more I listen to them, but someone posted an FB the other day covering 4 of those labels at once, and I was like "...S***, the stupid is alive and well!"

More horrifying when our President maintains that these are rational and contributing members of our society.

3. I'm sure they agree but they will never admit it or show any support for Obama.

If they have to do something against their own interests and understanding just to hurt Obama in some way, they'll do it.

President Obama is not talking to those same "Republican voters" that I talk to.

Is this his blind spot?

I see a lot of hateful people on Facebook that are getting less likes for their hateful-ass posts.

There are more people hating on Obama because to do so makes them 'popular' to their right-wing buddies.

Get the economy going and a lot of these people are as likely to admit they liked disco as admit that they ever bad-mouthed the president.

People go to great lengths to fit in; right now hating on the president is a way to fit in. Once the election is over a lot of people will turn their attention to something else.

People get emotional watching football. To a lot of these people; they're just cheering for the red team. Monday morning they just go to work and shake it off.

Sure there are gonna be people who have the same irrational hatred that they had for Clinton, but as a percentage of the population; it's not as significant as it is during election year.

9. IMO, President Obama is a moderate Republican, remember them?

Of course, I am a liberal Democrat, but will vote for the moderate Republican because the alternative is unspeakable. Like any good moderate Republican, Obama put the Bush's wars and idiot spending in the budget for all to see and became a target of right wing blame. Like any good moderate Republican, Obama has cut taxes and spending, proposed big cuts to SS and Medicare, passed a stimulus that was mostly tax cuts, and has held off on new environmental regulations. He has allowed the military too much power and passed a moderate Republican health care plan. All that said, I will donate, support, and certainly vote for Barack Obama.
And let's not forget those local elections!

The GOP won't be interested in doing business with him even if he wins a landslide election. They'll batten down the hatches, claim Romney wasn't "conservative" enough - double down on their rightwing positions and claim they've got no choice but to be the "loyal opposition" and stall every move he makes.

In other words, the next four years will be the same as the last four. Only this time they'll go even more crazy because they'll think American has lost its mind.

16. GOP constituents were only important at election time
Sat Sep 1, 2012, 08:59 AM
Sep 2012

Unfortunately, local constituents were only important at election time. I am disgusted with 2-3 local elected officials both Congress and Senate whose campaigns supported by national Tea Party money have done nothing for their community. After elected, many have spent their entire time focused on derailing President Obama.
Systematically, these Tea Party elected folks replaced good honest Republican officials who DID reach across the table for a common goal.
Best example, is Mike Lee in UT who replaced Senator Republican Bob Bennett. All Mr. Lee has done has embarrassed us with his rhetoric on the Constitution and voting against everything President Obama proposes even at times he agrees. We are stuck with him for another 4 years. Until these folks are GONE by not re-electing them, I suspect that there will be still some that will try to block President Obama. Mia Love, who spoke at the RNC, running for UT Congress is just another Mike Lee.

My hope is that Republicans who truly want someone who wants to help restore the economy will not vote for them again.
