Bloomberg: Trump says he didn't miss a chance to unite the country after McCain's death

Source: CNN

Updated 9:24 PM ET, Thu August 30, 2018

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump on Thursday defended his response to the death of Sen. John McCain in an interview with Bloomberg News.

Trump told Bloomberg, "No, I don't think I did at all," when asked if he missed a chance to unite the country and whether he had made a mistake. Trump had faced criticism for failing to issue a laudatory statement about McCain after his death and waffling over whether to keep flags at half-staff days after McCain died.

"I've done everything that they requested and no, I don't think I have at all," the President said.
.........................

Following McCain's passing, Trump tweeted that his "deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain," in a brief message that did not directly praise McCain or his service to the country. It wasn't until Monday that Trump issued a longer statement on the late senator saying that he respected McCain's service. ................................................

He is a divider not a Uniter.

Making the United States not a united populace but a made up divided one. The old divide and conquer strategy.

he was uniting the country on playing golf as a new way of showing respect and grief.

Tears to water each green and mournful meditation at the end of each hole.

No surprise that such a twisted individual would be prepared to collude with an enemy state to steal an election.

Like his stubborn refusal to accept that it was Napalm and not Agent Orange in "Apocalypse Now," in a room FULL of Vietnam Veterans !!

FFS, the line is "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning . . . it smells like victory."

Me ?? I love the smell of collusion in the morning . . . it smells like impeachment !

He didn't have to cry or be dramatic. Just an expression of condolence and a recognition of public service.

And he couldn't do it.

He will never be able to do it.

He is not one of us.

Even when it can be proved with irrefutable evidence, Trump would still not admit to making a mistake. He truly believes he's smarter than anyone else in the world, and he can never be wrong. That's how much of a horse's ass this guy is.

What the OP article refuses to note - when you have a dignitary die (or other event occur that qualifies for flags to go to half mast), the President always signs an official Proclamation making note of it and sometimes directing a time range for the flag remaining at half mast.

He never did that AT ALL until shamed into it days later. He merely "tweeted" some disingenuous remarks while the flag was lowered, and then the flag went back up again because there was no directive regarding what to do with it after the code length of time.

Doing the proper thing would not have "united the country". Seems like an absurd thought. An even if he'd made a speech without sounding like an idiot, bringing cable news commentators to tears, he'd undermine any positive feelings he'd generated within the week.

And we know he didn't respect McCain. He's not going to change that. He's no time traveller.
