Washington consultant for Ukraine party pleads guilty to violating lobbyist disclosure law

A Washington consultant who advised a Ukrainian political party and worked with a co-defendant of Paul Manafort pleaded guilty Friday to failing to register as a foreign lobbyist while working on behalf of a Ukrainian political party.

W. Samuel Patten, 47, was charged with one count of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act for failing to register with the Justice Department when he represented a Ukrainian political party known as the Opposition Bloc from 2014 through this year.

Patten pleaded to the count before Judge Amy Berman Jackson in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. “I would like to plead guilty,” Patten told Jackson during a hearing.

Patten also agreed he had steered an illegal foreign donation to President Trump’s inauguration, telling prosecutors that he arranged for an American citizen to act as a “straw donor” to give $50,000 to Trump’s Inauguration in place of a Ukrainian businessman who was legally barred from contributing to the event.

5. On Rachel's show last night, she brought up the other known link to Russia

Maria Butina, where last night, she showed a copy of a gag order request that Mueller filed against her defense lawyers.

Just as Patten had straw donors for Russian/Ukraine money, so too did Butina probably help to have the NRA act as a HUGE straw donor for Russian money to the GOP... and Mueller hasn't yet busted that whole thing loose yet.

I bet there are all sorts of people who were arranging for "straw donors" funneling Russian money into the campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if GOP Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (CA-48) had some under the radar straw donors.

Patten was born into a milieu of social climbing and Washington power politics. He is the grandson of the late Georgetown doyenne Susan Mary Alsop.

Patten told The Post in 2014 that a visit by the newly inaugurated President John F. Kennedy to the Alsop home on Dumbarton Street NW, hours after many of the festivities, confirmed the social prominence of his grandmother and his step-grandfather, the political columnist Joseph Alsop.

Patten’s father moved to Maine, ran a small-town weekly newspaper and later became a prison minister. Patten was schooled in Maine and attended Georgetown University, graduating in 1993.

I expect his family was liberal.... but sometimes having $$$$ enhances the desire for more and more (to the point of getting it via illicit means)... and he seemed to be a globe-trotter, which exposed him to all kinds of ways to get that $$$.
