Fort Lauderdale, FL Even in the wake of the Janus Supreme Court decision, the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO (TWU) continues to flourish.
In an overwhelming 82% vote, Customer Service Agents employed by Spirit Airlines chose to form a union under the banner of the TWU. The vote count took place at the National Mediation Board in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 4. Representatives from Spirit Airlines did not attend.
This is the ultimate act of democracy in the workplace, said TWU International President John Samuelsen. They are on the path to take control of their future, and the future of their coworkers. The TWU will wholeheartedly provide any assistance needed.
Three of the 300 newest members of the TWU Marcos Perez, Mariluz Ramos and Stephanie Foley were ecstatic, quickly sharing the news with co-workers.

(37,360 posts)is that Unionized companies can be easier to run. For one thing, health, welfare and retirement benefits can be turned over to the Union. There is a uniform and fair policy for firing people. Raises are contractual with the Union. You know exactly how much everything will cost.
The key to success for the company is being able to control who they hire. If you have that, you are set.
The Employees are still involved with the success of the company.

(788 posts)Long before they were unionized (obviously). I even reached out to TWU, among others, to inquire about organizing. Glad to see they have finally united in a show of solidarity. UNON STRONG.
