Jon Stewart Basks In The Glory Of Clint Eastwood’s ‘Awesome’ Speech While Tearing Apart Romney’s

Source: Mediaite

Jon Stewart opened The Daily Show‘s final night in Tampa by basking in the “awesome” and “hilarious” speech Clint Eastwood gave at the Republican National Convention, which consisted of the Oscar-winning actor yelling at a chair for ten minutes. But while Stewart was awe-struck over Eastwood’s speech, he was not so kind to Mitt Romney‘s acceptance speech, bashing it as being a whitewash of American history.

Stewart admitted he was “dispirited” by being in Tampa all week, but at the last second, Eastwood saved him with “a fist full of awesome.” He gleefully expressed his amazement that Eastwood “spent twelve minutes on the most important night of Mitt Romney’s life yelling at a chair,” describing the speech as the most amazing old-man moment he’s seen since “Dick Cheney non-fatally shot one in the face.”

-snip-

But what set off Stewart the most was Romney’s comment last night that he wanted Obama to succeed from the very beginning. Stewart rebutted Romney by running clips of conservatives saying, less than six months after Obama was inaugurated, that he was already a failure. And most damning of all, Stewart ran a clip of Romney himself, eight days after Obama was inaugurated, saying that he “partially agree[s]” with Rush Limbaugh saying that he hopes Obama fails.

Stewart brought the segment home, going back to Eastwood’s speech and why he did a “huge favor” for the GOP. By criticizing an invisible Obama for doing things that the real Obama hasn’t even done, Stewart could reach only one logical conclusion: “there is a President Obama that only Republicans can see,” and this Invisible Obama is the one they have been running against all along.

immediately dismiss him and mock him by telling him he's 'talking to the chair again.'
Dems should build a whole response team around it.
Thank you, Clint Eastwood, for making it all so clear.

Once again Jon Stewart and his staff show that they are on top off their game. Linking the invisible man sitting in that chair to the invisible President Obama that the Republicans imagine they see is absolutely the best when it comes to political lampooning. Jon Stewart understands that there is always a bit of truth behind the meaning of every joke.

That's a priceless insight, but saying that it was bad to go into Afghanistan without first considering what happened to the Russians there, that was pretty good too!

Telling Imaginary Obama he should've thought about what happened to the Soviets in Afghanistan as if Obama invaded Afghanistan.

And then the convention dumbasses cheered that idiotic statement like they probably cheered when Bush originally invaded Afghanistan.

Doublethink much?

Somewhere along the line the GOP mistakenly assumed Orwell's 1984 was a how-to guide and not a cautionary tale.

We all remember Reagan and those "Freedom Fighters" he was supporting trying to rid Afghanistan of those evil Russians! What republicans won't acknowledge is those Freedom Fighters were the Taliban and they took over after we helped them defeat the Russians using Stinger Missiles we provided. After a few of the Russian jets were shot out of the air they decided that it wasn't worth the effort and left. Thus we put in power the people we are now fighting.

Sad but true....

I've always said the conservatives who give credit to Reagan for winning the cold war really should thank Osama Bin Laden. He was the one leading the troops on the ground. Bin Laden said in interviews (when we were friendly) that he just didn't want foreign influence in the region.

Reagan was just printing up extra money for the military industrial complex.

The Afghan resistance played a much bigger role in bringing the Soviet expansion to a halt. Didn't have shit to do with Reagan's spending spree.

Because his success will be like his financial success in BAIN. He'll sell us and all our social programs off to the 1% who will privatize everything, destroy unions and reset everyone's salaries to minimum wage which he can continue to make smaller until we start eating each other to survive.
