Cry endangered wolf? Not in Wyoming. Gray wolf back from near extinction
Source: CNN
The gray wolf population in Wyoming has grown enough to be removed from the endangered species list and will stop receiving federal protection next month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Friday.
The decision means that gray wolf has recovered from near extinction throughout the Northern Rocky Mountains, which includes all of Idaho and Montana and parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah, officials said.
The wolves in Wyoming won't be protected under the Endangered Species Act effective September 30, when the packs will be managed by the state, federal officials said.
"The return of the wolf to the Northern Rocky Mountains is a major success story, and reflects the remarkable work of states, tribes, and our many partners to bring this iconic species back from the brink of extinction," Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe said in a statement.

1,774 of them. Stay classy, Wyoming.

(2,603 posts)There isn't any science used to say they are "recovered" it is all political. Apparently, like the manatees, 1% of historic population is now "recovered" whether or not it is sustainable or genetically diverse enough for long term stability in the population.

I can't count the number of arguments I've had with those sub-humans. THey always come out with the "The wolves will kill my cows" or the one about wolves attacking humans and on and on. They don't understand anything about the wolves other than the rumors and lies that people have spread since ancient times.
I have noticed that some Hunting Guides wish to eliminate the wolf population because they prey on the deer and elk herds. Some think that the wolves are decimating the herds, leaving none for the hunters. Others seem to understand that, with the wolves in the picture, the herds are behaving more naturally and staying hidden. Those guides just dislike having to work harder to find the elk.
May my brothers and sisters that fall in these hunts find their way across BriFrost where they can find all of our brethren that have gone on before and join them in the Wild Hunt.

(193 posts)Hunters who hunt for food or even ranchers who raise animals for pelts are one thing. Killing other living beings just for the 'fun' of it is cruel and sadistic

(9,445 posts)Wolves are an important part of the ecosystem. The hunters find any excuse they can to kill things. First too many wolves. (to them one would be too many) They claim the deer population is being decimated my the wolves. The only reason they care about the deer population is because they want to be the ones to kill the deer.
It takes a sick mind to find joy in killing things.

(17,718 posts)this is just sad and infuriating. God forbid they hire shepherds and cowboys to watch the livestock, but no, they would prefer to sterilize the range (mostly public land), while getting giveaway lease terms.

I won't touch beef in anything. Not healthy anyway, but all I can think about is how the ranchers are leading this anti-wolf mania.
Ken Salazar is a 4th generation CO rancher so he's appeasing his buddies. I can't figure out though otherwise why Obama is going along with this, its not as if there is anyone in WY that is going to vote for him anyway.
I'll leave it there, this issue makes me so angry that I'm incoherent.
