President Donald Trump on Wednesday touched on concerns over Paul Manaforts decision to cooperate with the government as part of his plea deal, saying if his former campaign manager tells the truth, its 100 percent.
If hes honest and he is, I think hes going to tell as long as he tells the truth, its 100 percent, he told reporters on Wednesday morning. He was with Ronald Reagan. He was with Bob Dole. He was with (John) McCain. He was with many, many people. Thats what he did. Paul Manafort was with me for a short period of time. He did a good job. I was, you know, very happy with the job he did. And I will tell you this, I believe that he will tell the truth. And if he tells the truth, no problem

(10,126 posts)... so Manafort could tell the truth and exonerate someone who has told more than 5,000 lies since he took office.

makes perfect sense!

(43,196 posts)and Manafort is under tons of legal obligations to tell the truth and penalties for not doing so ... so why would he lie at this point, and what is the purpose of floating this trial balloon? It just sounds like another instance where Donald J. Trump inserts himself into a situation as the final arbiter of "fairness". He does, after all, deternine what is FAKE NEWS and what is not.

(951 posts)His wording here is very important.
He did NOT say "and if he tells the truth, there will be no problem."
He said "and if he tells the truth, no problem."
These are completely opposites. The first one means trump is on the side of truth, and wants that truth to be heard. The second one says that the truth is a problem for trump, but he will be ok DESPITE that hurdle.

(14,026 posts)says something about how Manafort worked for him only a very short time. He'll claim to be "shocked and surprised" when the truth comes out.
