Dems plot massive campaign if Kavanaugh falls
Source: Axios
f Brett Kavanaugh's nomination sinks, Democrats would turn the midterms into a referendum not just on President Trump but also womens rights, abortion and the future of the Supreme Court, sources tell Axios.
Why it matters: In what Republicans believe is an increasingly unlikely scenario where Kavanaugh tanks, Dems believe they can juice turnout already hitting record levels by playing off the huge public attention to the court, and Roe v. Wade in particular.
They envision President Obama and Michelle Obama locking arms with the Clintons, the Bidens, and Democratic congressional leaders to crank up a presidential-election-sized campaign.
They feel confident every rich liberal in America would help fund this effort.

(14,175 posts)In fact it should be turned up to eleven if he is appointed.
Because, no one wants to hear this but, he will be. All this rapey stuff is just a small bump to McConnell and the Rs. In fact it will be used by the GOP as proof they did due diligence. They can preen on Fox about how they even allowed this late accuser to be heard, even if rushed.
But IMO it makes no difference even if she and others shout "rape!". I honestly think that it doesn't matter what kind of behavour Kavanaugh exibited, other than murder or child molestation, the GOP will rubber stamp him lock step. And deal with the fall out later, with their Pravda State Fox TV and thousands of RW troll jock radio shows across the country to help spin and re-frame it. Meanwhile, they have their super majority on the SCOTUS, no matter what. To approve whatever new laws they make, and protect their Distraction in Chief, in order to carry out plan B and C of the dismantling of the rest of the institutions and safety nets.

(6,374 posts)Why are the Dems "plotting" a massive campaign vs. "planning" one.
We can argue about if this activity should hinge on the Kavanaugh confirmation but com'on, criminals plot...normal people plan. I know they're used interchangeably in a lot of places but, IMHO, there's just a little suspicious undertone in plotting.

He was the first to report in 1998 that Republicans were formally planning to impeach President Clinton. He is married to Autumn Hanna VandeHei, a former staffer for House Republican Leader Tom DeLay of Texas.

(8,926 posts)It left me scratching my head to read that. It would make more sense if he is confirmed over our objections, or even regardless of. It reads like a mistake.

Can't let this happen, can we, republicans...better get behind kav.
The dems will have more to organize around if kav DOES get on the SC.
