Chuck Grassley leaves door open to postpone Brett Kavanaugh vote

Source: Des Moines Register

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley is leaving the possibility that the Senate Judiciary Committee may not vote Friday on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Grassley, an Iowa Republican who chairs the judiciary panel, was asked Wednesday during a weekly teleconference call with Iowa reporters whether he was considering pulling the plug on Kavanaugh's nomination in the wake of continued accusations of sexual assault.

"Well you are asking me to speculate. But here is where we are: You take this one step at a time," Grassley said. He promised to provide Christine Blasey Ford, an accuser of Kavanaugh, as well as the nominee, a "fair and respectful venue" at a committee meeting on Thursday. He added he will make no decisions until the meeting is concluded.

"It could take place Friday, or it could not. That kind of depends upon what happens tommorrow," Grassley said.

"They" all knew about Kavanaugh's background but still tried to and
are still trying to push him through to get on the SCOTUS.

5. I think the blowback from Ms. Swetnick's declaration will build until Kavanaugh quits.

Grassley, Hatch, Trump, and so on don't care what Kavanaugh did but the
heat from Ms. Swetnick's declaration is gonna be white hot.

on whether they think confirming him now, or later, is the better PR move.

IE.. will this get worse if they wait, or can they use the time to obfuscate, lie, use fake news to discredit, etc.

a number of Repugs don't really want him, but don't want to openly go against McConnell or the Kochs or whoever funds them. So they'll sorta kinda let the Democrats drag this on, then claim that it's all their fault when so much dirt comes to light. Then they'll have their excuse for not confirming him.

Grassley knows he's got the votes and the nomination will go forward regardless of what transpires Thursday.

Ms. Swetnick will not get a chance to speak before the committee, nor will any other woman Kavanaugh has molested.

Kavanaugh is too important a Republican apparatchik for the Trump Party to keep off of SCOTUS.

And once he's on the Court, nobody will ever investigate his sexual offenses.

I hope I'm wrong.

16. It probably won't be his decision. It'll be Turtle's

because Turtle is determined to ram him through no matter what - even if he has to discharge him from the committee for a full floor vote.
