Report: George W. Bush Calling Up Lawmakers to Push for 'Yes' Vote on Kavanaugh
Source: The Daily Beast
Former President George W. Bush has reportedly been calling up lawmakers in recent days and pushing them to vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Sources cited by The Washington Post late Thursday said Bush has been trying to sway some senators who are key votes in the confirmation process but are unlikely to be receptive to President Trump. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Joe Manchin III (D-WV), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) are crucial in deciding Kavanaughs fate, but on the eve of a committee vote set for Friday, they were still undecided. The four reportedly met privately late Thursday but still had not reached a conclusion. Were still talking. Theres no decisions made on anything, I can assure you of that, Manchin told Bloomberg News. He said there were still some concerns to be addressed before any decision can be made. Kavanaugh worked under Bush as an associate counsel and later a staff secretary, and it was Bush who nominated him to be a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2006.

Tribalism at its worst. A fraternity brother of Kavanaugh whom he let into the White House to do damage to representative democracy. The torture president. The president who gave cover to Saudi Arabians immediately after 9/11.
Bush once stood on a stage discussing economics and finance and honestly admitted that he represented "the rich."
They are not smart, they are wiley. They are not patriotic, they are tribal. The stage for what we are undergoing now was set in 2000 when the Tribe of the Rich installed G W Bush as president.

(34,393 posts)income inequality began spiking. He also was the first president to embrace the Religious Right as a political entity. Before Reagan, they were regarded as a necessary voting bloc that they had to pay lip service to, but they had no real political clout. Reagan changed all that by kowtowing to Jerry Falwell, etc.
This has been a long game almost 40 years in the making, and it came to fruition yesterday.

I'm tellin' ya, with each passing nail in the coffin of freedom and protections in this country, I'm feeling more and more anger not just at the alt-right, but also at the third parties who pushed for not voting for Hillary Clinton. Like or hate her, she was the path toward protecting our freedoms and rights in this country, the path to some bit of gun control, the path to protection of Social Security and Medicare....
