Trump signs bill that averts government shutdown, sets up fight over border wall

By Damian Paletta
September 28 at 1:11 PM

President Trump on Friday signed a massive spending package into law that averts a government shutdown and increases next year’s funding for the military and health and education programs.

The measure requires lawmakers to revisit other contentious measures in just two months, including whether to devote billions of dollars toward the construction of a wall along the Mexico border.

The new law avoids a partial government shutdown because it extends money for the Pentagon, health and education programs through Sept. 30, 2019 and a number of other programs through December 7.

Funding for all of those programs was scheduled to expire on Sunday at midnight. (1) ... This spending package reflects the compromise GOP leaders sought with the White House that postpones a fight over Trump’s demand for a border wall until after the Nov. 6 midterm elections.

health and education? Use it to finance closing school buildings and firing teachers? Oh yeah, give Devose a raise. Use it to shut down hospitals? It takes money to do all of that.

Onslow County NC closed school 3 days before Florence. They are still closed and the word is, they will probably be closed for 2 more weeks. 40 schools with 29 damaged.

or his monster party, going along, voting with the fascists on anything, even averting a government shutdown, is not the way you fight them, it just makes them look good, us weak. They voted against our spending bills when we were in power and were rewarded for it by voters. I wonder what safety net programs were destroyed this time?
