Senate Republicans Agree to Kavanaugh Delay for FBI Probe

Source: Bloomberg

Senate Republicans agreed to delay Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation vote to allow a one-week FBI investigation of sexual assault claims leveled against the nominee.

The scope of the investigation being sought wasn’t immediately clear. Second-ranking Republican John Cornyn of Texas announced the delay. He said the chamber will take procedural vote on Saturday.

The move followed a demand Friday by GOP Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona for a one-week FBI investigation into Christine Blasey Ford’s claim that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school. Kavanaugh categorically denied it.

The two men can agree to lie and Dr. Ford is invalidated.

BUT... they will talk to a lot more people! I am thrilled this is happening.

soon as the accusations were made.

Thank God for the woman who cried to Jeff Flake in the elevator today. She cried saying with you vote, you're saying you don't believe I was victimized. It was very powerful. Will see if I can find a link.

Now Kavanaugh is going down, we are going to take the Senate, and they will have no choice but to nominate an acceptable candidate.

Blue Wave! It will be a beautiful thing.

the bottom line, the FBI background check will reveal all that Kavanaugh wants left to be covered up and we have to suspect that a SIGNIFICANT number of GOP senators don't want to be slimed if and when a CRIMINAL investigation is done by Maryland authorities.

This drama continues AND NO BETTER time for mueller to come out with indictments against "non-political" entities (like don jr, kitshner and others)

IMAGINE if this happens and trumps blows up and comes out and blames republicans for delaying kavanaugh from being seated on the court to PROTECT HIM....

THAT WOULD SEND the republican party reeling with weeks before the election.

And I am not just talking about his SCOTUS nomination. I think he may have to kiss the Federal Bench and U.S. government employment "good-bye" because of a long history of lying on his "job applications."

then it becomes a he said - she said inconclusive investigation.

If they're not going to look at the other allegations, then this is no different than the scam of yesterday's session.

There are many folks to talk to at Yale and Georgetown Prep and surrounding schools. I cannot see how they can practically process those interviews and loop back to get anything meaningful in a week.

This smells like more appeasing smoke with little substance to me

"The Judiciary Committee officially requested the FBI investigation, saying it should probe "current credible allegations" against Kavanaugh, and Republicans said it would be up to the FBI to decide what allegations are considered credible." http://tinyurl.com/y7nzzshs

Of course, it's up to Trump to determine the actual scope of the investigation, and the Senate has already limited it to "current" allegations.

At least the FBI will have to talk to Judge, who says he will cooperate on a confidential basis. Let's hope this recovering alcoholic will feel the need to make amends for his past, as per the 12 Steps.

If the FBI does investigate Kavanaugh now , will he have to now quickly withdraw before they expose him maybe so much he loses his bench seat and law license , and face legal actions and maybe more exposure, if he doesn't back out now? If he doesn't he'll be putting maybe a lot more than he thinks on the line, and trump too.

Flake suddenly had an attack of guilt and tried this AFTER voting for him in committee. All this does is move it out of the news cycle and then next week they vote to confirm him. I'm not usually this pesitimistic but at every step the GOP has sunk to a new low, don't assume they are changing now.

This isn't a criminal investigation, it's background interviews. The FBI isn't so much investigating the actual allegations, they are taking peoples' statements and following leads to other people that may corroborate that information or expand upon it but there won't be any forensics, or warrants, or anything in depth like that. Then they won't draw any conclusions, they will simply type up their interviews and turn them over to the White House who will then pass it on to the Senate to evaluate.
