Teen Girl Who Alleged Rape by Brother-in-law, Abuse by Husband, Executed After 'Grossly Unfair Trial

Source: Newsweek

Amnesty International condemned the execution of a woman in Iran who was convicted of stabbing her husband to death after enduring years of abuse at his hands.

Zeinab Sekaanvand, 24, was 15 when she married her husband and was jailed at age 17 for stabbing him to death after a confession that she later retracted. She said she had been tortured and interrogated with no lawyer present.

She said she had been abused by her husband and raped several times by her brother-in-law, who told her that if she accepted responsibility, he could pardon her, which is accepted under Islamic law.

Despite retracting her statement, the judge refused to order another inquiry, and she was sentenced to death. She was executed on Tuesday morning in Uremieh central prison, West Azerbaijan province.

She is beyond pain.

As for the rest, may their suffering be endless.

I hear you about humanity.

Killing a child rape victim for defending herself is just mind bogglingly backwards and cruel.

Kinda hard to shame them, though, when our President is encouraging chants of "lock her up" while mocking a victim of sexual assault who was only 15 when it happened.

cheering, laughing and applauding his mocking of Dr. Ford, I was nauseated. There is something seriously wrong with some of our fellow citizens.

Poor young woman in that society. And the West has experienced similar cruelties unfortunately.

This made me think of Thomas Hardy's novel that he supposedly based on his experience witnessing the hanging of a woman in England who had struck or offended her husband. Can't recall the name, somebody will know it.

a horrible thing to do to a human being. God will judge those who perpetrated this crime upon this woman. This is truly an example of religion gone mad and abused by those in power to achieve whatever they wish.

But I'm sure a Christian Theocracy would be much better. Evangelicals are pushing for it here.
