Pence set to accuse China of interfering in U.S. policies, politics in speech

Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday plans to accuse China of trying to undermine President Donald Trump as the administration deploys tough new rhetoric over Chinese trade, economic, and foreign policies. In a speech to the Hudson Institute, Pence will say China is using its power in "more proactive and coercive ways to interfere in the domestic policies and politics of the United States."
"China wants a different American president," Pence will say, according to excerpts of prepared remarks from his office. Pence's speech comes a week after the president accused China during a meeting of the U.N. Security Council of interfering in American elections to help his Democratic rivals.
"Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election," Mr. Trump said. "They do not want me, or us, to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade." As proof, Mr. Trump later referenced a paid advertising insert in The Des Moines Register by Chinese government-affiliated entities in a tweet.
Pence is set to charge that China is targeting "industries and states that would play an important role in the 2018 election" as it responds to Mr. Trump's protectionist trade tariffs on China. "By one estimate, more than 80 percent of U.S. counties targeted by China voted for President Trump in 2016; now China wants to turn these voters against our administration," Pence will say.

(14,752 posts)They have already leaked a strategy. It is being discussed in nut-town. They are going to challenge election losses as being interfered with by china. They will seek to not allow the results to be certified.
They will get support and cover from reichwing gov's, state houses, and ag's. With kavanaugh, scotus will back them.
For house seats, it will be a do-over. For senate seats, gop governors will pick the replacemnt. Scott will pick scott and the senate will stay gop.
It is that ugly. This isn't a joke or a distraction.
It's a strategy.

(17,387 posts)Isnt scapegoating Mexico and China a bipartisan endeavor? Indeed, an strong argument can be made that the Trump administration has stolen Bernies trade policies:
Personally, I think we need to focus on problems with income equality and environmental degradation at home.
My take is that some on the left helped reinforce Trumps racist and xenophobic message with racist and xenophobic messages of their own.

(12,586 posts)This could be an extension of that play. "The Democrat (sic) Party could only have won with Chinese help, so they don't have a legal right to be seated." Let's take that argument to a Kavanaugh SCOTUS and see how it turns out. He's definitely the wild card -- a justice who openly showed himself to be a right-wing conspiracy theorist.

Makes me wonder about the timing. Both of those companies know that getting caught hiding a vulnerability like this would very severely impact their sales, and both have reported vulnerabilities before, so they don't have a habit of doing that.
Smells weird due to the timing, and the denials from industry leaders. Smells like borscht.
