Iowa to sell health plans that can disqualify people based on pre-existing conditions

Source: The Hill

New health plans sold through Iowa’s Farm Bureau will be able to ask applicants if they have any pre-existing conditions.

According to a checklist posted online by the Farm Bureau, applicants will be asked about a list of conditions related to mental health, blood pressure, reproductive system, lungs or the respiratory system, among others.

In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Farm Bureau Vice President Steve Kammeyer said some applicants for the new coverage could be turned away or face higher premiums if they have pre-existing health issues. He could not say which conditions would trigger those actions.

According to the checklist, if an applicant says they have been treated for any of the 16 conditions in the past five years, they will be required to provide detailed explanations of the treatments, medications and current status.

We in Iowa have watched out Republican legislature doing what it can to kill all things democratic.
This is the first in the nation stalking horse to kill a part of the ACA.

We are also the state that will probably have its abortion restriction (can't even remember what it is - 28 days?) be the one that makes it to the Kavanaugh Kangaroo Kourt

no healthcare for you. I recently bought healthcare form the exchange. Our cobra ran out. There are "short term policies out there. I saw one and the limit for payout was $250,000. That is pathetic.

The republican plan is like the soup nazi- no healthcare for you.

Still remember this crap being sold in Nevada in 2003.

The College Kid on the phone last night was totally Clueless as to what he was trying to peddle.

These plans are such a rip off. But,the Rethugs love them. Until the Clinic slaps a lien on their homes or business for lack of payment.

Also I fall unconscious at night but wake up just fine 6-8 hours later - I believe they could label that a nervous system problem.

Those '16 conditions' could literally mean anything.

Allergies including hay fever would fall under several.
Having a common cold would fit under two.
Pregnancy - Reproductive
Muscle strain
