Kavanaugh: I said things I 'should not have said' during Senate testimony
Source: Washington Post
Judge Brett Kavanaugh has admitted to saying some things he should not have during a Senate hearing last week, a tacit acknowledgement of the questions being raised about his conduct and emotions as he seeks confirmation to the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh made the remarks in a column for the Wall Street Journal, arguing that he would be an independent and nonpartisan judge. But he did not apologize for his behavior at the hearing, in which he interrupted senators, turned questions about drinking back on them and seeded his opening remarks with comments about revenge on behalf of the Clintons and left-wing groups.
His performance has come under increased scrutiny as his potential appointment to the Supreme Court hangs in a delicate balance.
More than 2,400 law professors from across the political spectrum signed a letter this week arguing that the lack of judicial temperament that Kavanaugh displayed would be disqualifying for any court, let alone the highest in the land. A former Supreme Court justice, John Paul Stevens, has also weighed in, calling Kavanaughs hearing performance disqualifying during an event Thursday, according to the Palm Beach Post.

(10,126 posts)that he wanted a full, open and thorough investigation of these allegations by the FBI.
Any respectable justice with nothing to hide would call for that because they would not fear the outcome.
It is the proper due process for such a circumstance - try to get to the bottom of the truth.

(15,286 posts)The ones he had time to think about and re-read before hitting send to his mouth? Would this be the pre-prepared attitude he came to his testimony with? The one he was determined to showcase to every Dem senator who dared ask him a question?

By nominating BK, rump did BK and the country a great disservice, in that rump is thinking that BK could be a potential backstop against impeachment or other such actions against rump. What other qualifications did BK have if he was already so partisan and emotional already? Why were so many documents withheld during the discovery phase that were requested on BK? Why such a weak FBI investigation into the BK allegations?
One does tend to believe that this whole process is a total sham, no less.
We all saw BK's actions live on TV and how partisan it was. How very partisan it was as a matter of fact. Blatantly so. Voters saw thru this. Voters also saw not BK in a more favorable light, but the victims in a more favorable light. There seems to be some talk of repugs picking up minor % points in the polls because of 'the attacks on BK' but this is wrong, it's the attacks on women and not believing them that's causing the polls to move, and move favorable towards the democrats.

(12,660 posts)Simply put, if he can't get it together enough to not approach a couple hours of Congressional Hearing like a stereotypical South-side dockworker might approaches a sports discussion at the corner bar after a couple drinks before staggering home to a cooling dinner, he's not mentally competent enough to be making a determination on the legal complexities of Constitutional Law for the Nation.
My apologies to the stereotypical South-side dockworkers that reside in any number of coastal cities.
