Murkowski to vote no on Kavanaugh: 'Not the right man for the court at this time'
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska described President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as "not the right man for the court at this time" and strongly signaled she will vote no in Kavanaugh's final confirmation vote on the US Senate floor.
After opposing a key procedural vote Friday morning on the nomination, Murkowski explained her vote to reporters, calling it "the most difficult evaluation" she has had to make.
"He's not the right man for the court at this time," the Alaska senator said. "So I have taken my vote here this morning. I'm going to go back to my office and write a floor statement that is more fulsome."
In a dramatic Friday morning vote, the Senate moved to end debate on the Kavanaugh nomination and advance to a final confirmation vote, which could take place as soon as Saturday.

Besides the sexual predator issue, the Native Alaskans are concerned about their rights and property and truly feel Kav would jeopardize that.

(67,782 posts)....if she votes yes her Senate career will be all but over. People in Maine (my two best friends live up there) are just about fed up with her feigned reluctance on votes like this and then winds up voting with republicans.

(498 posts)Who's taking the most pressure? Who's taking the most heat? Murkowski. Flake is a yes. What's left? was it collins?
She'll do the no vote and then the others can all vote yes and she'll get points for voting yes while they still confirm the serial rapist.
Her vote is meaningless unless someone else comes out no. And that stupid dem who hasn't said yet says no. If he votes yes. Next time he comes up for election we poor everything we have to a democratic challenger and take his seat from him. Might as well have a republican in the senate if when it comes to the most important vote of the senators' lives he votes the other way.
Until I see another no vote, this is what I expect happened. (assuming the dem votes no)

(37,648 posts)There's a difference in voting the vote that prevents a confirmation, and voting a vote that doesn't matter to the end result.
Enquiring minds want to know.

(5,376 posts)'At this time' is the important phrase. Kavenaugh should never be on the Supreme Court, and Murkowski knows this. She was allowed to vote no by McConnell. If her vote was needed to confirm, she would have voted Yes. I wish people would stop giving her credit for this.

(23,350 posts)... so Sen Daines can attend his daughter's wedding and not have to fly to DC to submit his "yes" vote.
A strange senatorial courtesy. It works numerically, but in a few years, nobody will remember why she didn't vote "no".
