Michael Cohen, President Trump's former attorney who until June served as the Republican Partys deputy finance chair, today changed his party registration from Republican to Democrat, according to a knowledgeable source.
Between the lines: Cohen went online around noon to the Albany-based New York State board of elections to make the change, according to the source. The move fits a pattern of Cohen publicly breaking from the man for whom he once said hed take a bullet.
Keep in mind that Cohen has been signaling his break with Trump for months now, after Trump didn't lift a finger to defend him from charges of campaign finance violations over Cohen's payments of hush money to keep two women quiet about their affairs with Trump.
In his guilty plea in August, Cohen implicated Trump by suggesting that the then-presidential candidate directed him to keep the affairs quiet.

(7,888 posts)Your criminal behaviour will need more than a change in party.
The truth may be somewhere between fact and rumour.
Cohen has a cab company that operates out of the Tower. It is reported there is also a prostitution ring operating at the same location. hmm, only Mr. Mueller knows for sure.

(9,999 posts)On the other hand - for some - THEY ARE NOT DEMOCRATS. They are just temporarily NOT Republicans. They still carry old Republican beliefs but are upset with Trump or their party's inability to rein him in. They haven't suddenly embraced Democratic ideals. Once they get a sane conservative back in power, they will dump us like a hot rock. I don't want my party watered down with more DINOS. Like when Richard Painter was running as a Democrat. I can enjoy watching him take down Trump and his ilk but we have better, true Democrats to represent us, so I was happy that he did not win. That said, I hope they do go out and vote for us but hope that in doing so, they don't try to change our party (from within).

(9,696 posts)That's what I've been thinking as well. These "former republicans" are just embarrased, they haven't changed their position on how the government is run. They seem to think changing parties is like betting on a different sports team when in fact it's chaning your whole belief system.
Yes, most will be gone in a short time. They think they're making some grand political statement right now. heh.

(51,593 posts)I googled Wikipedia about Cohen's political affiliation a while ago and remembered that he was a Dem.....
Wikipedia: Cohen
"Political party
Democratic (before 2002; 20042017; 2018-present)
Republican (20022004; 20172018)"
I remembered that I also had googled Jared, Ivanka and the Donald after I heard that the moron was a Dem and changed parties about 4 times in the last 20 years. Jared and Ivanka were listed as Dems but about a year ago that was changed on their Wikipedia page.
They have no political ideology. They belong to the party of "make me richer at any cost". Their party should be called "The Narcissist and Greed Party" (the NGP).
