Last week, in an effort to beat back accusations that she has lied about her identity, Simona Mangiante provided ABC News with a photograph of her Italian passport.
But rather than quiet widespread speculation that the wife of the former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos was perhaps not who she presented herself to be, that passport photo has now raised more questions than it has answered.
Mangiante acknowledged on Monday that she altered the date of birth on the photograph to disguise her age. She now says she is 37, not 34, years old.

Stedman was not the first to harbor doubts about Mangiantes personal history. When federal investigators from Special Counsel Robert Muellers office charged her then-fiancé in October 2017, they also pulled her aside to ask her whether she spoke Russian or had ever traveled to Moscow. In the months that followed, especially when she became more vocal in public, she was asked repeatedly if she was concealing any ties to foreign intelligence outfits.

(86,690 posts)should have a reason to doctor a photo. They have one photo and they keep it over time so most are of the person when they are young and presentable. All the European passport photos I've ever seen were like portraits So a doctored photo would be highly suspicious I would imagine.

(51,587 posts)With weird bleached hair and the eastern European accent, only a clueless idiot would believe she's Italian. And Papadopoulos was just that idiot.

I know what an Italian accent sounds like. She does not have an Italian accent.

(90,751 posts)...the media kept describing her as Italian, which confused me very much.
I am really glad that somebody is checking up -- good grief.
