Squatting amid loose red dirt and rocks, Blake Fischer posed for a picture, a triumphant grin stretching across his face. Arranged in front of him, resembling a macabre family picture, are the bodies of four baboons. The smallest ones head is lolled back, its mouth slightly agape. Crimson blood stains its abdomen. A quiver of arrows is in the foreground.
The photo landed Fischer, one of Idahos Fish and Game commissioners, in the middle of a firestorm of backlash and resulted in Gov. C.L. Butch Otter asking for his resignation Monday, according to a news release. Fish and Game commissioners are appointed by the governor to serve four-year terms and are subject to removal by him. Fischer was recently reappointed to serve until 2022, the Idaho Statesman reported.

The photo is gruesome, and he has a huge smile on his face.

(16,847 posts)I don't get it and I hope I never will. Glad he lost his job. He might find it difficult to find another one now that everyone knows he's an amoral asshole. Someone like that should lose their right to own guns. He obviously can't be relied upon to exercise good judgement before pulling the trigger.

(9,426 posts)of baboons likely had a higher IQ than the entire tRump family combined. They certainly had better "family values" I am certain of that. Glad this cretin lost his cushy job. His wife sounds like such a sweetheart, too. Yeah, right.

(86,691 posts)being Idaho F&G, I'm kind of surprised Butch made him resign. It's not like that agency has a lot of wildlife advocates in their ranks.

(14,795 posts)Hunting and fishing is big business there. Most people hunt and fish. Say what you will, hunters are conservationists and killing for "fun" doesn't sit well with them.
Sure, yes, some assholes are also hunters. This one certainly was. But you can't call this hunting. He was lead directly to a position where he could shoot. It was killing, not hunting. There was no expectation that the game would be eaten. It wasn't population control. It was target practice.
I may be in the minority here, but hunting doesn't bother me. Killing does. This was senseless.
And I expect even the people of idaho were appalled by this. Asshats of course, probably laughed about it and made racial comments.

(6,578 posts)Being led to an animal is not hunting. Killing with no use for the animal is just that, killing.

(86,691 posts)I lived in Idaho for about 15 years and have had many a battle with that agency over their mishandling of wildlife management and lying to the public and the feds.
Lots of ethical hunters in the region and that's not what I was calling out. I was calling out the agency and the governor whom I have also had issues. Those folks are in another world of their own.

Time to have the whole administration resign.

(9,967 posts)The family of baboons...they have the babies watch the parents get killed of vice versa? I can only imagine these monsters laughing at the terror and pain these innocent creatures went through.
And the giraffe? Who kills a giraffe? A sweet, harmless giraffe?

(272 posts)"I recently made some poor judgments that resulted in sharing photos of a hunt in which I did not display an appropriate level of sportsmanship and respect for the animals I harvested. WTF does that even mean? It's certainly not a synonym for "murdered" which is a much more appropriate description of the cretin's actions. What a miserable piece of human garbage.

(20,208 posts)They'll say "harvested" or "took". They'll also say "I took the trophy" instead of "I sawed its head off".

(33,643 posts)Are we supposed to believe that, after his photo shoot, this assclown took the baboons to be butchered, and he had the meat frozen, took it home, and subsequently fed the family and neighbors delicious baboon meat ... to survive the harsh winter?
Harvested ... PFFFFT.
What a fucking asshole this guy is.

Hey Blakey boy, next time you want to impress people, bring back a rhino, but only take a knife. Then we won't have to see you ever again.

(6,831 posts)There is no place in a civilized society in the 21st century for this senseless kind of slaughter.
He obviously had NO remorse when that picture was taken. He squats behind an entire family, now dead, with a shit-eating grin plastered across his stupid mustached face. He only regretted his behavior because he revealed to the entire world what a piece of human excrement he is.
The fact that he traveled a significant distance to another country to intentionally and mercilessly murder animals that will probably be extinct in our lifetimes, sickens me to my soul.
And I swear the next time I hear that an American travels to Africa to kill a giraffe, I just might have to take revenge.
