An unvaccinated child in Florida has died from the flu, becoming the first person to succumb to the disease season, Florida state health officials announced Monday.
The child was diagnosed with influenza B and died sometime between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6, according to the Florida Department of Health. The department noted that most deaths from the flu occur in people who are not vaccinated.
The child had no underlying medical conditions, officials said.

(20,205 posts)I hadn't gotten the flu in years, because I almost always get a flu shot. I waited too long and came down with it a week ago. I'm still sick. Get your shot. - TODAY.

(5,271 posts)News reports said the young woman had a cardiac arrest related to flu complications. There were several deaths in my area last season of otherwise healthy adults who had heart attacks following onset of flu.
