Georgia police officer fatally shot near middle school

SNELLVILLE, Ga. A Georgia police officer has been killed after being shot while responding to a suspicious vehicle parked near a middle school. Law enforcement agencies are searching for suspects following the Saturday afternoon shooting near Snellville, WSB-TV reports.
Police said Gwinnett County police officer Antwan Toney was rushed in critical condition to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died. Toney was a two-year veteran of the department.
The shooting happened Saturday about 3 p.m. near Shiloh Middle School. It's unclear if any of the suspects are injured.
Snellville is about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta.

(35,359 posts)Doesn't sound like there were classes being held. Perhaps extra-curricular activities. But it started as a suspicious-vehicle call, not a "there's an insane student gunning down teachers and students" call. And it's unclear it was even in the school parking lot. (But I have crappy bandwidth right now and I'm not clicking on the link.)

(22,651 posts)police car computers automatically flag cars with common violations, plus police can use discretion to stop people or create a reason like "didn't turn on turn light 100 feet from turn' reason... so they "stop" more people.
Police should work in teams of 2 because some people will run away or shoot police to get away.
