JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. (AP) The Latest on the fatal shooting at a Kentucky grocery store (all times local):
5:10 p.m.
Police say they are aware of reports that the man accused of fatally shooting two people at a grocery store in Kentucky made a racial comment to a bystander.
But Jeffersontown Police Chief Sam Rogers said at a news conference Thursday that he "can't speculate on motive at this time" and that authorities are "pursuing all avenues of the investigation."
Rogers did say that surveillance video shows the suspect tried unsuccessfully to enter the First Baptist church in Jeffersontown before he went to the Kroger store Wednesday.

Ed Harrell was waiting for his wife outside a Kroger in Jeffersontown on Wednesday when a man with a gun appeared.
Harrell, a Louisville resident, said he came face to face with the alleged shooter later identified by police as 51-year-old Gregory Bush outside the grocery.
The Jeffersontown Police confirmed that two people, a man inside the Kroger and a woman in the parking lot, were killed. Bush, who is being held on a $5 million bond, was arraigned Thursday morning on two counts of murder and 10 counts of wanton endangerment.
Inside the store, Harrells wife, Elaine, was in the produce section asking a Kroger employee where she could find beans for her white chili recipe, she said. She heard loud noises, and then people screaming and shouting.

(9,998 posts)His embrace of white nationalists and his rhetoric against minorities have given license to the crazies to act against people of color. Trump is turning this country into a war zone for minorities and immigrants.

Local coverage here, at the Louisville Courier Journal (several articles, note viewing limits):

(865 posts)Thank you for the Courier-Journal link. That was our paper when I was growing up. I scrolled through the photos, saw the pictures of the dead and the shooter, then noticed that all the other pictures were of white people. White cops, white store employees, white people hugging each other and looking shocked.
What this told me:
1. As a major suburb of Louisville, it resembles a lot of white flight suburbs (only 8-9% African American) and is as such a breeding ground for white supremacist crazies, who are convinced that the big scary blacks are coming for them.
2. People of color are frightened for their lives and don't want to be anywhere near the scene after this loony toon blew away two of them. But it won't last. I expect there will be some marching pretty soon, peaceful demonstrations, and probably some physical clashes.
I pray for the safety of everyone. Everyone.

(14,492 posts)I had not reviewed local news for a while because of so much national & international stuff going on lately. Just looked over some articles in the Courier-Journal and see this guy Bush was married to a black woman and yet had a deep hatred for black men. It's a very mentally twisted world we live in.
I also was not aware that the guy that challenged him outside with a gun was a black dude originally from Detroit. He and his wife were very lucky to not get shot.
It was a simple stroke of luck he didn't get into that church with 8 to 10 employees inside. And, a church administrator who was there told a news reporter:
If Bush had tugged on the church door an hour earlier, he would have found 70 people gathered in prayer.
The door might have been unlocked.
That's scary as hell. So, you're exactly right about his intent.

From the article:
