Courts rule on guilt and innocence, not discussion boards. We simply discuss and speculate. I doubt anyone is not hoping for a fair and deliberate application of justice.

We help our case by not loudly arguing against that which is, at worst, irrelevant and at its best, merely benign.

Fri Oct 26, 2018, 01:04 PM
Oct 2018

It is not a moral principle.

If someone comes up to me on the street, points a gun at me, and takes my wallet, then I do not have to presume that person is innocent of mugging me. That's just ridiculous.

Furthermore, the prosecutor at a trial certainly walks in and says, "That person is guilty" from the word go. It is, in fact, the prosecutor's job not to presume anyone is innocent, but to prove they are guilty and they certainly do say so.

A "plaintiff" is a party in a civil suit, not in a criminal proceeding.

Look, if I see you shoot someone on the street, I don't have to believe you are innocent. If there was some general duty to believe accused people are innocent, then nobody would get arrested, tried, or convicted, of anything.

All it means is that in a criminal trial, the prosecution has the burden of production and persuasion, and that the defendant does not need to prove anything if they don't want to.

It is not some sort of "rule to live by" for persons not engaged in a criminal proceeding in some capacity.

If someone wants to believe this guy is guilty, then they are free to do so, and they are free to express that belief.

Expressing what one believes is also a basic freedom.

My belief that someone is guilty, and my saying that I believe someone is guilty, does not impact that person's liberty in any manner at all. Neither my belief nor my expression of it puts that person behind bars.

I'm not going to go off into yet another legal issue with you, but to express one's opinion about something, and to clearly state that it is one's opinion, is not defamatory.

Statements which are expressed in the form of opinions are not actionable. I can say, "In my opinion, so-and-so is deranged" about anyone. It does not matter whether I have any sort of qualifications in psychology, or whether I am factually correct.

The First Amendment protects statements of belief or opinion.

Defamation occurs under certain circumstances in which someone makes false statements of fact about another person, and causes that person cognizable harm (i.e. harm which can be reduced to a dollar figure).

If I say, about anyone, "In my opinion, X" or "I believe X about that person" then my statement is always true - as a statement of my opinion or belief.

Man in Florida arrested in connection with mail bombs sent to public figures, official says

By Mark Berman and
Devlin Barrett
October 26 at 11:01 AM

BREAKING: A man in Florida has been arrested in connection with the mail bombs, according to a law enforcement official.

Authorities on Friday recovered two more potential explosive devices sent to public figures, the latest packages addressed to Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and former director of national intelligence James R. Clapper Jr.

These packages — recovered in Florida and New York — push the total number of devices found by law enforcement to 12. None have detonated, but all have pushed officials onto high alert as they worry about additional devices being delivered.

The FBI said a package, “similar in appearance to the others” found this week, was addressed to Booker and located in Florida. A spokesman for Booker, a prominent Democrat and potential 2020 presidential candidate, declined to comment and referred questions to law enforcement.

if this is a Reichstag fire. I have been very uneasy about the way this has been unfolding. Right wing media was all over the talking point that this was a false flag from the very beginning. I pray to god this is not the case (Reichstag fire) but Republicans are as dirty and evil as they come.

We, Democrats, are in position to definitely take back the House and 50/50 to regain the Senate, there is absolutely no reason for anyone from the Left to send these bombs but there is plenty reason for a pal of Rudy Ghouliani to send these bombs and have a patsy set up to blame.

They have cut away now, but they were apparently waiting for the WH press conference for a long time.

What I saw was a room full of mostly black folks wearing MAGA hats - was there a Blacks for Trump meeting scheduled or something?

They were also starting to chant - We Want Trump, We Want Trump! Looked like a campaign rally in the WH!

I'm sure Jim Rob will only keep $200,000 of it for "operating costs" of his 1990's style website.

So much for that false flag conspiracy theory. But I'm sure the Republicans will come up with some other bullshit to feed their followers.

A mentally ill conservative loon who was pushed over the edge by Trump's violent rhetoric, but somehow his supporters still blame democrats and the media for this.

Oh and of course those who still claim it's an elaborate false flag hoax meant to frame Trump supporters. These claims are probably made by people with the exact same affliction as the attempted bomber.

That Van's funny & scary at the same time with all those stickers with targets on them.

I'm really ashamed of the USA President, he would ignore Fans who promote violence.

If the story wasn't crazy enough...

...the mail bomber had his picture taken at a Florida Trump rally with "Blacks For Trump" guy Maurice Symonette, a former cult member indicted for his role in the ritual torture and beheading of a man.
