Meeting With Pelosi Doesn't Deter Marcia Fudge
Source: Roll Call
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi met with her potential competition for the speakers gavel on Friday, Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge, who left the meeting still contemplating a bid.
No, Fudge told reporters when asked if Pelosi asked her not to run. What she asked me was basically how we could get to a point where I could be supportive.
Asked if such a point exists, even if she opts not to run against Pelosi, Fudge said, There is a point, yes, but its going to take some.
Fudge said she used the meeting to tell Pelosi about some of her concerns, adding that she needs more time to talk to people and think about whether she will run against her. The Ohio Democrat is headed home for Thanksgiving and plans to announce a decision shortly after the holiday.

(7,028 posts)Nancy basically said, "This is the question you are going to have to ask people when they openly oppose you for Speaker." The ball is now in Ms. Fudge's court. What does she want? What is she committed to, if anything?
Then she has to corral the agendas of her supporters and get to 218 votes, if it's the Speakership she wants. Thanksgiving is coming up, then the Christmas break. She's got like three weeks to get together a counter to what Nancy has built for all these years.

(7,028 posts)confidence that she would be the next Speaker, that she would be the best person, right now, to lead the house and move its agenda.
Nobody else has claimed this. They have only stated their opposition to her. That includes Ms Burke, while also "considering" whether she wants the Speakership. How do you not know one way or the other 10 years into your career? Can she even state who she would want besides Nancy?
Ms. Burke said "It's gonna take some." That's really vague. If she knew what she wanted. She would have stated it.

(402 posts)I had never even heard of Marsha Fudge until she came out of the woodwork trying to oust Nancy Pelosi a Speaker of the House. When she's done something remarkable enough to make a name for herself other than THAT, then maybe I would support her for that very important position. Until then; sit down and shut up, Marsha. Maybe you'll learn something.

Admittedly, I have big issues with her being one of two who refused to vote for LGBT equality, yet she seems to think she can defend that vote. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100211435309
However, whether her accomplishments, (no matter how "nice" a person she might be), measure up in comparison to those of Pelosis' seems to be a clear "NO", a fact that her own caucus seems to think as well.
Use your newly found attention to gain a better committee position, Congresswoman Fudge, but be wise enough to see that there are some who want to exploit you for reasons far less savory than honorable and don't play along. They don't care about you, your issues, nor anything other than settling some nebulous score with Pelosi. Don't help to squander our opportunity, hard fought and won in this midterm election.

Nice work, indeed!
