Trump Admits Mistake: 'I Should Have' Gone to Arlington on Veterans Day

-snip-
Speaking with Chris Wallace in an interview which will air this weekend on Fox News Sunday, the president said that he should have attended a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day.
I should have done that, Trump said. I was extremely busy on calls for the country, we did a lot of calling as you know.
Wallace pressed Trump. But this is Veterans Day, the Fox News host said.
I could have done that, Trump replied. As you know I just left the day before the American Cemetery and I probably think and that was one where it was raining as hard as you can imagine and I made a speech at the American Cemetery the day before. And I probably, you know, in retrospect, I should have. And I did last year, and I will virtually every year. But we had come in very late at night and I had just left, literally, the American Cemetery in Paris. And I really probably assumed that was fine and I was extremely busy because of affairs of state doing other things.

Reminds me of the stories I heard about doctors hiding from treating Stalin because he executed them if he didn't like what they said.

"and I will virtually every year" What the hell does that mean?
"And I really probably assumed" He either assumed or he didn't. Oxymoron is right, heavy on the moron. Plus, the old saying about "assume" applies here too. Mostly ass out of him, though.
" doing other things." Yay, a shred of truth.
Total BS from the shitter-in-chief.

(42,759 posts)Before 1993, it was atypical for a President or Vice President to attend ceremonies at Arlington on Veteran's Day. In fact, the first president to do so was JFK, who did it once. LBJ never did it (but Humphrey went in his place once). Nixon also never went (but Agnew went once). Ford went twice, Carter twice, Reagan twice, Bush I once.
Clinton is the only president to go to Arlington on Veterans Day every year of his presidency. Bush II and Obama each missed several years, but their VPs always attended in their place.
This was the first year since 1991 that neither the President or VP participated in Veterans Day ceremonies at Arlington.

(951 posts)But he still broke a long streak that naturally was becoming a new tradition.
It's just especially jarring for it to be HIM that does this... he is mister gung-ho for military I love America so much I hug the flag!!
We had to endure two years of him berating athletes for "disrespecting the military" by kneeling during the anthem... then he's a no-show on the day dedicated to them... HOW could he not see that as hugely damaging to him?!?

(160,621 posts)It would seem appropriate, considering the fact that in our lifetimes war has become a constant factor, not considered a situation to be employed in only the most extreme circumstances.

(5,732 posts)He is a draft dodger, it would be an insult to the families of every one buried there for him to show up and use Veterans Day and Arlington National Cemetery as the background for one of his bogus, impromptu campaign rallies.
There is no way he can every honor the veterans of this country, just the fact that he is president is a disgrace to anyone who served in the armed forces.
