Trump on border wall funding: 'This would be a very good time to do a shutdown'

Source: The Hill

BY TAL AXELROD - 11/17/18 09:44 AM EST

President Trump on Saturday kept the door open to a potential government shutdown if an upcoming deal to fund parts of the government does not include funding for a border wall.

“We’re talking about border wall, we’re talking about quite a big sum of money, about $5 billion,” the president told reporters Saturday before leaving the White House for a trip to California.

“This would be a very good time to do a shutdown. I don’t think it’s going to be necessary, because I think the Democrats will come to their senses, and if they don’t come to their senses, we will continue to win elections,” he added.

Trump has previously flirted with shutting down the government over funding for his proposed border wall, but Republicans convinced him not to do so before the midterms, saying it would hurt them at the polls.

I like the idea of shutting down the legislative branch, but we need the rest of the government to keep running.

With Pence trying to act like some tough guy with China claiming the tariffs will be doubled if China does not "bow", I see a government shut as the icing on the cake of terrible.

Guess I was wrong.

BTW Trump is really going nuts today.

Not sure if the Crown Prince of S. A. was a part in Khashoggi's murder, more crap
on the wall that will never be built, and he will get Nancy Pelosi the votes that she
needs to be Speaker of the House.

I have not seen any numbers if US gained anything, if at all, in foreign trade with Mexico.
Probably nothing knowing how Trump operates.

Mr. President, yes please shut down the government, it will show how big and strong you are, how powerful, intelligent and decisive you are...That will teach those damn Democrats they can't fool around with you, they will have to wait until January to do something about it, but they will know you let them wait...

I know the idiot doesn't understand about consequences, but just in case, the consequences should not be presented to him, he may have an hour to read those three lines and then change his mind...

So let me get this straight. The unpopularly elected so called leader of the free world, who by all account should be representing the Constitution above and beyond anybody else, throws around “shutting down the government” like it’s a play thing.

All the more evidence of his illiterate comprehension of government, callous disregard for, and disdain for representative government. If the fool can’t work out a “DEAL” than he should STFU and leave running the country to those who can. Deal maker, my ass!

Can a president shut down the entire government unilaterally? If so, how is that different from being a dictator?

I’m confused.🥴. What is this asshole even talking about? Threatening to close down the US government because he’s a lying piece of shit?

And his 40% morons need to pull their heads out of their asses and wake the hell up. This was one of his empty promises. How fucking stupid and irresponsible!

For a carnival wall...I can see little shops all along this wall..accessible by both sides..carnival rides..and
carnival booths mixed in..some restaurants...maybe a few movie theaters...Something both sides can
enjoy..Hotels...maybe a few swimming pools here and there..And of course all the necessary offices to
interview and receive anybody that wants to become either an americun citizen or a mexican citizen.
