Florida governor race: Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum concedes to Trump ally Ron DeSantis

Source: Sun-sentinel

Democrat Andrew Gillum says he is ending his hard-fought race for Florida governor and has congratulated Republican Ron DeSantis.

Gillum posted a live video on Facebook on Saturday afternoon in which he congratulated DeSantis. Gillum had conceded to DeSantis on election night, but retracted it after the margin between the two candidates narrowed. The race went to a legally required recount, but after an initial machine recount DeSantis still led Gillum by more than 30,000 votes.

Gillum, who is Tallahassee's mayor, isn't saying what he plans to do next.

"Stay tuned," he said in his brief remarks. Nonetheless, Gillum says he will remain politically active, adding "the fight for Florida continues."

All three Democrat-appointed justices on the court are hitting their mandatory retirement in a few weeks. This means that Republicans will hold all seven seats on the court.

To make matters worse, the mandatory retirement age was just increased (effective next July) to 75... so they will likely hold a lockout majority for years to come.

Going to be uber-polluted, stand your grounded, and more and more racist--basically fucked up for a good long time with thuglican, banana-republican rule there. The GOP--tRump's party, has made Florida, with it's 29 electoral votes their Confederate Crown Jewel, and it'll be theirs for a long while I'm afraid. Dems more than likely KNOW for sure that they will have to win presidency in 2020 and without Florida moving forward for the unforeseeable future. Not that they can't win the presidency without Florida, they can. Dems in the back of their minds have all but conceded Florida's 29 electoral votes to thuglicans. thuglican votes there are more worthy than Dem votes in Dade/Broward County even if they're illegally faxed and mailed in like they were from Bay County. Damn shame.

I live in California, and while it's not a perfect here--it's on the expensive side to live here--and we've had to overcome what Florida has to overcome in GOP-ness, etc. We did. We're a DEEP NAVY BLUE STATE There is NO MORE ORANGE COUNTY. thuglicans are an irrelevant afterthought here ORANGE COUNTY IS NOW BLUE Dana "Human Ruskie Nesting Doll" Rohrabacher is GONE So, there is for change in Florida, but it will be much later rather than sooner I'm afraid. I'm happy and blessed that nearing 60, I'm not living in a place like Florida. My 68 year old friend is retired and has lived in Florida his whole life and he told me just last night that he's really thinking about moving out of Florida because he's "had it" with the state. He said Gillum and Nelson were cheated out of their governorship and Senatorial seat (Yeah, Florida has a white nationalist governor and a medicare fradudster who should be in jail as it's Senator). He's tired of the pollution, racism and thuglican rule there the last 20 or so years. He's boiling mad that his vote probably wasn't counted (He's also probably right about that too). He's long divorced, has no children or elderly parents to care for and he lives very frugally so he can afford to move. I didn't tell him to move, but I'm not going to tell him to stay there in Florida either. I feel him. I'm supportive of him in whatever he chooses to do.

I hate to do this to my buddy still living there and to Dem constituents who will have to suffer under DeRACIST/Alien fraudster Scott and their soon to be repressive and right-winged Supreme Court but .....

Gillum was robbed. When people start finding ballots dumped in the back of rental trucks you know something stinks.

I wonder how many tens of thousands of ballots from minority voters are now "sleeping with the fishes"?

DeSantis is going to bust his ass for Der Trump to keep those Electoral Votes. You watch. More voter purges, more missing and hiding machines in Democratic strong holds.
