Steve King nabs Mitt Romney endorsement, Obama campaign pounces
Source: Huffington Post
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a conservative firebrand known for taking controversial positions on a variety of issues, picked up an endorsement from GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday, a move that drew a quick response from an Obama campaign seeking to paint its opponent as an advocate for antiquated policies.
Speaking at a campaign event in King's 5th Congressional District, Romney excitedly expressed his support for the 5-term congressman.
"I'm looking here at Steve King," Romney said, according to BuzzFeed. "He needs to be your Congressman again. I want him as my partner in Washington!"
BuzzFeed reports that the comment quickly made the rounds on Twitter, and within the hour Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith was out with a statement targeting Romney's endorsement.

Like Trump and Nugent, this is yet another example of Romney happily embracing his party's lunatic fringe.
The GOP's presidential nominee has no sense of shame, and should be immediately disqualified by sane people as a candidate for any office.
Some of King's greatest hits
Pushing birtherism:
"It would have been awfully hard to fraudulently file the birth notice of Barack Obama being born in Hawaii and get that into our public libraries and that microfiche they keep of all the newspapers published. That doesn't mean there aren't some other explanations on how they might've announced that by telegram from Kenya."http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/01/steve-king-birther_n_1729613.html
On the election of Obama in 2008:
"When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam? I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_King#Remarks_about_Barack_Obama
On rape:
Medicaid also covers abortions for victims of statutory rape or incest - for example, a 12 year old who gets pregnant.http://www.kmeg14.com/story/19324372/rep-steve-king-on-the-campaign-trail
Congressman King says he's not aware of any young victims like that.
"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter." he said.
Supporting dog-fighting:
When the legislation that passed in the farm bill that says that its a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight but its not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, theres something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that, King said.http://www.salon.com/2012/08/03/what_theyre_saying_steve_king_on_animal_fighting_america_and_immigration/
On immigrants:
King suggested lazy immigrants should be avoided as well. You get the pick of the litter and you got yourself a pretty good bird dog. Well, weve got the pick of every donor civilization on the planet, King said. Weve got the vigor from the planet to come to America.http://www.salon.com/2012/05/22/rep_steve_king_immigrants_like_dogs
Steve palling around with a convicted felon and being a race-baiting scumbag:
On G. Gordon Liddy's radio show, King said, "The president has demonstrated that he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race - on the side that favors the black person."http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20007729-503544.html
And Steve endorsing secession, terrorism and other violence:
"After being informed of an attempted right-wing suicide attack on an IRS building, King expressed empathy with the terrorists motives, saying Its sad the incident in Texas happened, but by the same token, its an agency that is unnecessary and when the day comes when that is over and we abolish the IRS, its going to be a happy day for America. Further, after the passage of the health care law, King intimated that parts of the country may need to secede from the Union, claiming that we wouldnt have to do that if his audience could beat the other side to a pulp and chase them down."http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/09/07/815901/meet-rep-steve-king-romneys-new-partner-in-congress/?mobile=nc

(7,403 posts)His district has been redrawn and is now competitive. Council Bluffs and south have been taken out and replaced by the much more liberal Ames. His opponent is the wife of a former Iowa Governor and current Secy. of AG. Another Iowa race pits an incumbent Republican against an incumbent Democrat and that race is very tight with a very slight edge for the Democrat. Iowa is one of the few States that do not gerrymander districts. It should be the model for the nation.

(14,093 posts)Imagine if, a few years ago, Obama had made a similar statement of support for Cynthia McKinney after her 9-11 troofer comments (or done the same following any controversial statement from a Democrat). The media would have hounded him for months over it.
And what Rev. Wright said is pretty mild, compared to King's vile words. But I doubt Romney will get grilled in a debate over King, as Obama was over Wright.

(297,615 posts)a vile bigot if he thought it would get him some votes. Oh wait..
I sometimes wonder if mitt even knows what he's doing. He seems kind of slow. Like when he said out loud that he didn't think the Troops were important enough to talk about in his big fat acceptance speech.
"Mitt Romney told Bret Baier on Fox News today that he did not talk about the troops in his convention speech because, You dont go through a laundry list; you talk about the things you think are important.

Evidently, ol vile bigotmonger, Steve King, is "important enough".

(19,458 posts)He would be forced to withdraw, after weeks of intense attacks by the media, but a long list of military officials who would denounce him publicly, etc. But Mitt? Well the media doesn't give a shit, and apparently no one but us, does.

(19,458 posts)The sudden shifting of ad money to particular states. His "big" event today in the most conservative/christian County in Iowa, at a Christian college, filled with bused in Christian school students. His paling around with King.
Truly.. I think they finally got a clue that there is no way in HELL that they can package him and Lyin' Ryan, to the mainstream independents, and the swing voters. THey realize now that their ONLY hope is to energize the Chuck Norris, Gary Bauer, Steve King, crowd, if they have any chance at all.
The calculation is that between suppressing the vote, and being so outrageous that they fire up the crazy ass evangelicals and racists, they can do this without a hint of the young voters, the voters of color, and the independents.
This is their strategy: Lie. Attack facts blatantly. Carpet bomb the States where they can get the ignorant voters angry enough to vote for Romney and not stay home.

(26,117 posts)I know the Obama campaign released this response to show swing voters that Romney is willing to consort with loony-tunes, but I hope this also helps Christie Vilsack, King's Democratic challenger!
King needs to go!
On that note:
The Democratic challenger in Iowas new Fourth Congressional District, Iowa's former first lady Christie Vilsack, came out swinging in the first face-to-face debate of the campaign. Incumbent Republican Congressman Steve King was caught a little off guard.

The crazy ass so called "Christians" probably, ummmmmmmm 15-20% will stay home especially the ones who figure out what Mittens religion is all about. The bigots are included with maybe 75% who will come out to vote, y'know, the skin heads and KKKs and oh, the 60% of the rich.
Hey, the rich women are about as misinformed as the crazy RW. Women for Mittens claim its the DEMS who have the war on women.
