GOP senator calls on Congress to end shutdown without border deal

Source: The Hill

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who faces a potentially tough re-election in 2020, says Congress should re-open the federal government, even without a deal on funding President Trump’s border wall.

Gardner is the first Senate Republican to call for ending the partial shutdown even without a deal on President Trump’s demand for $5 billion to fund a border wall.

“I think we should pass a continuing resolution to get the government back open. The Senate has done it last Congress, we should do it again today,” he said.

Gardner says the onus will then be on Democrats to explain why they don’t support more money for border security after they voted to spend an additional $46 billion on the border in 2013.

Cory Gardner is doing this out of politics to save his seat rather than actually stand up to Trump and say that the Shutdown is WRONG in the first place.

Any Republican who disagrees with Trump in private and is too damn chicken to say so in public, must grow a pair and stand up to him for the sake of the country. Otherwise, the people will take matters into their own hands and put up a candidate to challenge those Republicans and WIN!!!!

There was no vote to build a wall in 2013, and Boehner was speaker in 2013, a Republican House.

GOPers would have to explain why they didn’t pass the bill in 2013

They’d also have to acknowledge the $46B agreed upon funded some fencing - but mostly technology and personnel - and definitely not a wall.

After 4 years of being a reliable rubber stamp for McTurtle, little mister cory begins his inevitable "see, I'm really a moderate" act so he can run for re-election claiming to be a "centrist" who "stands up to members of his party when he disagrees". Didn't buy it in 2014 and we're sure as hell not buying it now.

Still top of the list, cory!

I can come 2020 to support the Democratic candidate running against Gardner. Cory is just too extreme. He really is. The problem is the guy is charismatic. He has great public relations skills. But his voting record? THE PITS.

he is not charismatic in any way ... he won his seat in the 2014 midterm. Midterms historically meant low voter turn out. Public relations skills have been nil as he has found ways to avoid meeting with his constituents. He took money from the NRA, the chairman for the national republican senate committee and a rubber stamp for McConnell. In other words, his word is as untrustworthy tRump's ... his ass is grass and he'll be out on his ass in 2020 (and I'll bet he knows it).

in 2017 and he was talking about the tax cut and regulatory relief, which the business audience ate up.

But, yeah, Colorado is a blue state now. Gardner will face a real uphill battle come 2020.

All they need to say is "That was then, this is now. The President has demonstrated on multiple occasions that changing your mind, behavior Reblublicans have labeled as 'flip-flopping' in the past, based on day-to-day current opinion is not an unusual thing to do."
