Trump AG Pick Won't Meet With Klobuchar, Blumenthal Before Confirmation

Source: Talking Points Memo

William Barr, the former attorney general President Trump nominated to replace the ousted Jeff Sessions, refused to meet with Democratic senators on the Judiciary Committee, Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) because of the “shutdown.”

However the shutdown didn’t stop Barr from meeting with several Republican senators this week, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

partisan. Graham spouted bipartisanship and then had a meeting and invited no Democrats. Republicans want total power.

They are determined to establish a authoritarian presidency with no congressional oversight. Their goal is the complete destruction of the checks and balances established by the founders of our nation and the formation of a government no different than those of Russia and China. Trump has followed the blue print of fascism, discredit the free press and challenge the authority of every government agency making them subservient to the presidency. Their goal is within sight. Can they be stopped? That remains to be seen. If they succeed the eventual result, if it follows past history, is revolt.

Fintan O’Toole: Trial runs for fascism are in full flow
Babies in cages were no ‘mistake’ by Trump but test-marketing for barbarism

One of the basic tools of fascism is the rigging of elections – we’ve seen that trialled in the election of Trump, in the Brexit referendum and (less successfully) in the French presidential elections. Another is the generation of tribal identities, the division of society into mutually exclusive polarities. Fascism does not need a majority – it typically comes to power with about 40 per cent support and then uses control and intimidation to consolidate that power. So it doesn’t matter if most people hate you, as long as your 40 per cent is fanatically committed. That’s been tested out too. And fascism of course needs a propaganda machine so effective that it creates for its followers a universe of “alternative facts” impervious to unwanted realities. Again, the testing for this is very far advanced.

Here are what I believe to be positive suggestions.

1. Major penalties for hiring illegal aliens.
2. In conjunction with No. 1. A national ID that use technology that is virtually fool proof. (This would negate the Republicans voter suppression laws.)
a. This would provide two things. Stop hiring of illegal aliens and over staying of visas. People with visas could be issued an I.D. that
has an expiration date after which they could not cash checks, charge, etc.
3. Have a comprehensive study of what methods are best for securing the borders.
4. Green cards would be issued with an expiration date and temp I.D.

but he is a big fan of ....................hold on..............here it comes................“evidence impairment,” and he didn't want to explain this ....................

-snip-

Instead, Mr. Barr offers a more narrow theory that the president can obstruct justice only by “evidence impairment,” which seems to mean shredding documents or threatening witnesses and the like. Firing the F.B.I. director for failing to act on the same evidence is apparently O.K. But this argument does not bear scrutiny.

The relevant statute, Section 1512(c) of the federal criminal code, applies, as Mr. Barr says, to cases of evidence impairment, but it also applies to anyone who “otherwise obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding, or attempts to do so” — provided that they act “corruptly.” If destroying evidence to protect oneself from an investigation is obstruction, then so is pressuring a subordinate to ignore such evidence or drop the investigation altogether.

Mr. Barr argues that President Trump cannot be criminally liable under Section 1512(c)(2) because “statutes that do not expressly apply to the President must be construed as not applying to the President if such application would involve a possible conflict with the President’s constitutional prerogatives.” If Mr. Barr were right about this, then the president would be shielded from a host of uncontroversial laws, including the federal bribery statute, which does not mention the president but would seem to prevent him from selling a cabinet post to the highest bidder.

-snip-

And then there is this gem, he said:

Finally, Mr. Barr says that the president’s motive in removing James Comey as F.B.I. director “could not have been ‘corrupt’ unless the President and his campaign were actually guilty of illegal collusion.” Nonsense. Obstruction is a crime in itself, and for an obvious reason. If a criminal suspect successfully obstructs an investigation, the underlying crime is never discovered.

Twenty years ago, a bipartisan group of four former attorneys general warned that attacks on the independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s investigation of President Bill Clinton “by high government officials and attorneys representing their particular interests” appeared to have the “improper purpose of influencing and impeding an ongoing criminal investigation.” Mr. Starr — who was “effectively prevented from defending himself” because of confidentiality considerations — should be allowed to continue his work, the former attorneys general said, “without harassment by government officials and members of the bar.” Wise words, which apply to the current special counsel as much as they did to Mr. Starr. And Mr. Barr would do well to remember that he wrote those words himself.

I just wonder if Barr read the latest about some f***ing campaign manger giving polling data to a Russian agent Kilimink and then lying about it to federal agents and then having a boss that was running around for president.....................do you f***ing think that is not obstruction when a federal agent ask someone a pointed question.................what did you do with the polling data? What did you say in trump tower, when meeting with agents of Russia? Did you mention this polling data?

Then having him (both) and others run around that they knew nothing about it and they were in fact acting in corruption to the fact that was just recently laid out in court document about the campaign manager lying--------------who is in essence a f***ing traitor, in my opinion ------------------------

If anyone doesn't think that these two people in that campaign and others didn't talk about this are full of proverbial s**t, like this Barr and the republicans are trying to provide cover for in some form or fashion...................remember some narcissistic megalomaniac got up on a stage and said hey Wikileaks ........................this is tied together with that court filling and that poll data.................in some form and fashion, and with the tower meeting.............in my opinion...............because the campaign manger owned money to the oligarch that is now trying to get his sanctions lifted by the Treasury this "guy" named Deripaska, that knows Kilimink...........am I wrong on this..........

Is this why this a**hole Federalist Society jerk doesn't want to speak to members on the Judicial panel about this: Section 1512(c)(2) statute ...................because this jerk doesn't believe in the rule of law....................on how "corruption" is applied to the obstruction.......................give me a break......................

And then to give some lame excuse of the shutdown to not meet with the democrats on the panel, that in my opinion is outright "conspiracy" to circumvent the "advise and consent" to Article II that they operate under.......................................they are in the same building, just imagine what he will do if and when he gets approved....................go into full "conspiracy" mode.....................and then write some memo.................

November 3, 2020 cannot get here fast enough......................I love democracy................... I dislike authoritarians or wanna be authoritarians because they don't like the word NO and throw temper tantrums.................
