Trump swipes at Dems over reopening government: 'Get it done!'

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/12/19 10:31 AM EST

President Trump sought to pin blame on Democrats on Saturday as the partial government shutdown became the longest in U.S. history, saying Americans should call Democrats in Congress and tell them to reach an agreement with the White House on border security.

Trump continued to cast the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border as a "humanitarian crisis," asserting on Twitter that Democrats could help solve the funding impasse in "15 minutes" by agreeing to his demand for more than $5 billion in funding to build a border wall.

The shutdown, which is affecting about 25 percent of the federal government, entered its 22nd day on Saturday, making it the longest shutdown in the nation's history. The previous record was 21 days, which happened during the Clinton administration.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been affected by the latest funding lapse, with workers on Friday missing their first paychecks due to the shutdown.

Trump Rips ‘Fake’ WaPo Reporter, Insists There’s No Chaos: ‘Almost Nobody in the WH But Me’

by Josh Feldman | Jan 12th, 2019, 11:27

President Donald Trump attacked a Washington Post reporter this morning for reporting that the White House is pretty chaotic right now as the government shutdown becomes the longest on record.

Trump insisted there is absolutely no chaos in the White House, saying, “There’s almost nobody in the W.H. but me.”

He also insisted he definitely has a plan on the shutdown “but to understand that plan you would have to understand the fact that I won the election, and I promised safety and security for the American people.”

The President appears to be referring to Washington Post White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker, who said this on Today this morning:

“We hear about the West Wing being chaotic so often, but it really is at this moment There does not seem to be a strategy for this shutdown. They decided to enter the shutdown without a clear plan of how to get out from it… There is no plan for how to reopen this government.”

If we are talking about ending the shutdown, only one person is holding up the process...

He's the monkey wrench in the works. From what I understand, all he has to do is let the Senate vote on a proposal but he refuses. Or is he too, deathly afraid of being poisoned?

And... Drumpf has the gall to mention a Humanitarian Crisis? He and his Repugs had 2 years to get the wall funded - but they were too busy taking babies from their Mothers, and locking children up.

11. Where Might The Problem Lie

The Ryan House passed a plan and sent it to the Senate. McConnell wouldn't bring it to the floor for a vote.

The Pelosi House passed a plan and sent it to the Senate. McConnell won't bring it to the floor for a vote.

Trump called on Congress to have a vote. McConnell adjourned the Senate without a vote.

There seems to be a common thread here. McConnell is the problem. It is the McConnell-Trump government shutdown.
