SAN ANTONIO A military personnel insurer and financial services company has donated $15 million for interest-free loans to Coast Guard members during the partial U.S. government shutdown.
San Antonio-based USAA on Wednesday announced the funds will be disbursed by Coast Guard Mutual Assistance. The American Red Cross Hero Care Center will assist.
Coast Guard personnel with dependents are eligible for interest-free loans up to $1,000. Service members without dependents are eligible for up to $750.
Officials say the loans are meant to cover an estimated two weeks of shortfalls due to Coast Guard personnel not being paid during the government shutdown, which began Dec. 22.

(1,040 posts)... of standing by service members in times like these (natural disasters, man-made ones). While $1,000 won't go far, it's a start, and the fact that it's interest free means they aren't trying to make money off it.
Well done, USAA.

(998 posts)Insurance, banking, other financial stuff. My husband was in the military - USAA all the way. Always had our backs. Our kids were eligible to use the company, too. They got their first USAA credit cards in their own names as HS kids - $500 limit. 20+ years later, still members. House and car insurance. Best rates.

(4,138 posts)Their insurance department is great. They've always had really good customer service when we've needed to make a claim, and were very fair with when we made a claim due to a burglary.

(26,343 posts)I deal with a lot of banks in my business (mortgages). Whenever I need something on behalf of a customer I can usually get it with one call. Theyll fax/email it to you while you are on the phone and confirm you received it.
My own banks, chase and shittybank, are nightmares.
