Mnuchin flew on Milkin's private aircraft in December: report

Source: Marketwatch

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin flew from Washington to Los Angeles on Michael Milken's private jet, according to a report Friday in The New York Times. Milken is the Wall Street bond trader who went to prison after pleading guilty to securities fraud charges. A Treasury spokesman said Mnuchin has already reimbursed Milken for the cost of the flight and said he did not need an ethics waiver for the trip. Mnuchin's use of military aircraft for domestic travel caused some controversy early in his term. Last year, Treasury's inspector general said Mnuchin's staff had not provided complete proof about why the Treasury secretary needed to use military aircraft. Mnuchin had asked to use a government jet on his European honeymoon, but later withdrew the request.

From the NYT’s article

Richard Painter, the former chief ethics counsel for President George W. Bush, said that federal ethics regulations offer substantial leeway for officials to accept gifts from friends. Despite the longstanding friendship between Mr. Mnuchin and Mr. Milken, he thought the decision to fly on his private plane was questionable, even if the secretary paid for his seat or part of the total cost of the flight.
“The appearance of a Treasury secretary sitting on a private plane belonging to someone who is convicted of a felony securities fraud, it’s just atrocious, regardless of who paid for the plane,” Mr. Painter said.

Anybody check their bags? When the gold at Fort Knox disappears and the permanent pucker thats S Manuchin and his cruella deville wife disappear...it's too late.
I can see his reasoning on another angle...his name was on the money, so it was his. So, it wasnt stealing to load govt planes w cash and fly them to the Caymans or whatever. We laugh (hopefully) but, these people actually reason that way, and their 15% really really loud base...will waive them through wo justice.

-snip-

Mr. Milken agreed to plead guilty in April to six felonies. He admitted to a conspiracy between himself and two clients, Ivan F. Boesky and David Solomon, the manager of an investment fund. Mr. Milken pleaded guilty to hiding stock for Mr. Boesky to allow the speculator to file false information with the Government, and at another time to allow him to avoid minimum capital requirements for a stock-trading firm.
