Trump Says Border Wall Has Worked in San Antonio, a City 150 Miles North of the Border That Has No Wall

by Aidan McLaughlin | Jan 19th, 2019, 12:47 pm

Ahead of his planned speech on Saturday to address immigration and the ongoing government shutdown, President Donald Trump made the case for his border wall to reporters outside the White House.

“Everybody knows that walls work,” Trump said. “You look at different places they put up a wall, no problem. You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places. They go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately.”

One problem with Trump’s claim: San Antonio, in Texas, is some 150 miles from the border with Mexico. It does not have a border wall.

To make matters more interesting, San Antonio’s congressman is Republican Will Hurd, who has repeatedly dismissed Trump’s wall as pointless.

Davy Crockett (my history of this is fuzzy) could have just Wheeled the Alamo somewhere else. Totally confounding those invading Mexicans!

That's What We should do with the Whiny Wall Wanna. Wheel him out of the room to some safe place. Give him/in a pacifier (laden with anti-stimulant meds) and let him sit in his own sh1te for several days at a time. Give the caregivers huuuuge wages to deal with the intelligence-deficient condition.

18. San Antonio's most historic wall
Sat Jan 19, 2019, 04:17 PM
Jan 2019

Everyone knows that the central landmark in San Antonio is the Alamo mission. Back in 1836, in an early attack on the Alamo, Mexican cannon had done considerable damage to one of the external walls. The defenders hastily constructed a wooden wall to replace the brick wall. A bit too hastily .... they hammered together planks of woods and raised them up in such a way that the planks actually provided the Mexican infantry with ladder steps up the wall, making it easy for them to overrun the Mission.

So San Antonio history provides an instance when an anti-Mexican wall was actually a serious mistake.

...There is one place that would have him, right here in the U.S.A. In Alaska, in some forest far away from humans.. Some food, a nice high TV antenna, plenty of McDonalds sent daily! It needs to be near a road, so he can get to town. It will need to be a small town that doesn't give a shit who comes to town. He will indeed need extra walls around his house in the forest, to keep out the winter cold, and the bears. (and other animals) Plenty of video tapes and 4 or five cable networks all specially connected so he can watch thousands of channels. Oh..another house close by for his staff of advisors and hangers on. Daily newspapers so he can read what's up and specially selected .."women of the night" since his wife will not go to Alaska..
...Now if it were isolated enough, Alaska would take him as a good will gesture for being bought from Russia years ago. He could talk to the animals as much as he would like, and a special staff of one hundred "Trump listeners" would be brought in each day to listen to his bull shit. I would have no trouble paying extra in my taxes so he could be permanently moved there, as long as Pence resigns and Pelosi takes over.. So that is the Stuart Plan..to deal with Mr. Trump.

It's a huge tourist attraction, along the river which flows through downtown, not too far from the Alamo.

I know San Antonio very well---there's no "wall" for Orange Julius to make reference to.

https://www.factcheck.org/2019/01/trump-wrong-about-wall-effect-in-el-paso/

He's probably thinking of El Paso, but he's wrong there, too--they do have a fence, but it was never a dangerous city. And in the past he has ridiculed the fence, so....
There have been two pivotal changes in El Paso border enforcement over the last few decades, and neither lends itself to the president’s narrative. The first, in 1993, did not involve the erection of border wall, but rather a flood of border patrol agents along the immediate border.

The second was a border fence constructed as a result of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. But claiming that the construction of that fence transformed the city from one of the most dangerous in the country to one of the safest, as the president said, doesn’t hold up
