Only a quarter of U.S. voters view Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) favorably, the lowest of any other congressional leader included in the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Tuesday.
The survey showed McConnells favorability underwater at just 25 percent, with 44 percent having an unfavorable view.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) fared little better, coming in at 30 percent and 35 percent, respectively. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was not included in the survey.
The approval rating for all three leaders are below President Trumps favorability, according to the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey, which stands at 41 percent, while Vice President Pence comes in at 42 percent.
Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll, said that McConnells dwindling favorability, as well as that of other congressional leaders, suggests that the government shutdown is taking a political toll on lawmakers............................................

(29,381 posts)... I have no doubts now that he is in over his head hoping the Dems win this battle. I have no mercy for him... he put himself into this position due to Libertarian/nazi ideology. He made a deal with the devil, and he would rather go down this way; a traitor.

(20,214 posts)I would be shocked if he ran for reelection. He doesn't impress me as a "work til you drop" type like McCain.

(3,256 posts)I think there are reasons he doesn't care. One is I don't think he will run again. Even the Turtle probably realizes the wheels are falling off and that he's painted himself into a corner by being a Trump rubber stamp. Historically, being a party leader in the Senate usually hurts a poltiicians home state appeal as they have to spend less time and effort on state voters. Even if he does run he will have a huge war chest that he can use to throw mud by the barrel, which has been his favorite tactic according to my friends in Kentucky. Lastly, there is a good chance that the elections in Kentucky are fraudulent. Bevins is very unpopular with about 56% disapproving him, no poll before the election showed him with a lead, and yet he won. So I'm supposed to believe that he got suddenly popular for one night only? The mainly use elctronic voting. The only other alternative is that the mud throwing machine was effective in suppressing Democratic votes, which is how negative campaigns work. Or it could be both. Last I checked there are more registered Democrats in Kentucky than Repblicans and I'm hoping for a gain in this state, but I really think there should be some looking into their voting security.
