Hours after insisting in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that he planned to deliver the State of the Union address in the House chamber as per tradition, President Donald Trump has totally capitulated — announcing that the speech has been canceled.

The president broke the news during a White House pool spray on Wednesday. “The state of the union speech has been canceled by Nancy Pelosi because she doesn’t want to hear the truth,” Trump said. “She doesn’t want the American public to hear what’s going on. And she’s afraid of the truth.”

Shortly after receiving Trump’s letter, Pelosi replied that by saying that the House will not open their chamber to the president on Jan. 29. Trump blamed the “super-left Democrats” for the speaker’s position on the topic.

“I hope they know what they’re doing for their party,” Trump said. “So far they haven’t.”
