SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah company donated $100,000 on Thursday to keep three national parks open during the federal government shutdown.

The money from Salt Lake City-based uniform and linen rental company Alsco will fund operations at Zion, Bryce and Arches national parks.

It will pay for basic custodial and visitor center services at least through President’s Day weekend on Feb. 18, as the parks’ busy season begins.

The bare-bones operations have been funded through nonprofit groups and local governments since the shutdown began Dec. 22.

Actually I don't think it's legal as donations cannot be made to the govt for a specific purpose pecosbob Jan 2019 #2

There's no end to these costs. That's why they must be funded by the public.

The only thing Treasury is allowed to accept donations for is reduction of debt. It's on Treasury's website. Of course the parks are overseen by Interior, but that doesn't change anything. If the visitor and custodial service are performed by vendors then it is legal, otherwise I don't believe so.
