Bin Laden raid doctor Shakil Afridi speaks out
Source: BBC News
The Pakistani doctor who helped the US to locate Osama Bin Laden has said he was unaware he was involved with the 2011 killing of the al-Qaeda chief.
Speaking for the first time since his arrest, Shakil Afridi told Fox News he did not think he needed to escape after the killing but was then kidnapped by Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency.
He said the ISI, who he says tortured him, regards the US as its worst enemy.
It is unclear how Dr Afridi, who is in jail in Peshawar, gave the interview.

Not a pretty picture of ISI's opinion of the USofA,
which is one of the least-best-kept secrets in the
international community.

(27,461 posts)in a country where polio is a serious problem, and the government is desperately trying to get people vaccinated, our country went in there and set up a fake vaccination program.
There are definite benefits to getting Osama, but what about the costs? We talk about the political risk to Obama, what about the risk to the Pakistani people?
The CIA organised a fake vaccination programme in the town where it believed Osama bin Laden was hiding in an elaborate attempt to obtain DNA from the fugitive al-Qaida leader's family, a Guardian investigation has found.
As part of extensive preparations for the raid that killed Bin Laden in May, CIA agents recruited a senior Pakistani doctor to organise the vaccine drive in Abbottabad, even starting the "project" in a poorer part of town to make it look more authentic, according to Pakistani and US officials and local residents.

It is not news. Asked what country is our greatest threat, I said Pakistan.
But we need Pakistan because that is how we get material in and out of Afghanistan. We also can go through Uzbekistan but that route was developed fairly recently.
Another reason why we do not have the choice to keep many troops in Afghanistan -- in my opinion.
