Pelosi: No wall money in U.S. border deal talks
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said there would not be any money for President Donald Trumps border wall in the deal being now worked out by a bipartisan negotiation team.
Pelosi also rejected as a non-starter the Republican presidents offer of temporary protection for young Dreamers in exchange for permanent wall. She said she does not believe a bill to permanently end shutdowns should be part of current border security negotiations.

(16,646 posts)That's what the emergency declaration is all about. It authorizes the use of various funding sources for alternate purposes. In this case it'd probably come from the DoD budget.

(6,228 posts)Lawsuits are written and ready to file if trump declares an emergency declaration. Due to litigation there will be no wall any time soon. I wonder if trump knows that folks living along the border do not want the wall. Why? The government would take some of their land for the wall.

(16,646 posts)I suspect one of the myriad of reasons he hasn't tried this yet is he knows, 1) it'll take longer than his presidency to clear through the courts and 2) He's very likely to lose.

(3,335 posts)and that they've used up all the money they had (???????) and then the next day he'll say that the Congress will convene a committee that will be responsible for determining the size, height, width, depth, length, etc.
For someone who is supposed to be an expert in the field of construction, he has seemingly plucked a dollar figure out of the air, as to how much this wall's down payment will be, ($5.6B) and at least another $100 Billion by his own estimates, in construction costs, without even considering the eminent domain costs related to seizing other homeowners property rights along the border.
I'm no builder, and I don't profess to be a builder. But at least, my Accounting Degree would lead me to know that before I tried to build something, I should first have a plan that existed somewhere other than inside my head. I should have a set of plans which would tell me how long, how wide, how high, and what type of materials I planned to use so that I could provide these specifications to a 'REAL' builder who could tell me whether my plan was feasible, and within the parameters of my budget I had given him. Also, if I was going to finance my project with other people's money, I would need to have my financing all lined up as well, or at least have an amount which I didn't just pull out of my ass two years ago, and have done nothing with since to refine or solidify my target cost.
