Virginia Democratic Congressman Bobby Scott was made aware of allegations of sexual assault against now-Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax over a year ago by the alleged victim herself, ABC News has learned.

Scott learned of the allegations directly from Dr. Vanessa Tyson, who on Wednesday released a statement detailing the alleged 2004 assault, which took place at the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

Fairfax vehemently denies the assault claim.

In a statement given to ABC News on Wednesday, Scott wrote, "Allegations of sexual assault need to be taken seriously. I have known Professor Tyson for approximately a decade and she is a friend. She deserves the opportunity to have her story heard.”

1. We are all dead. And we all clearly did something very wrong when we were alive.

Is every politician in Virginia a garbage person regardless of their political party?

2. That isn't surprising. It was a year ago that she went to the WA Post and started telling friends.

It wouldn't have been appropriate for any of those friends to come forward without her permission.

11. And yet the WaPo didn't find enough meat on the story to move with it

And I don't care who says what, I still want to know why she waited for him to become Lt. Gov. before speaking up

Person A accuses Person B of something.

Person A goes off and tells Person C about it.

Person C repeats what Person A says. This is hearsay. It is 100% useless in determining truth.
No court trial is necessary. Hearsay is just as useless in regular life as it is in a court.
