Trump and Trump, Jr. blasted for joking about genocide in attacks on Democratic 2020 presidential candidate

President Donald Trump was highly criticized on Saturday for making an apparent joke about genocide during political attack on a 2020 campaign challenger.

On Saturday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) announced she was running for the highest office in the land.

Trump, who has nicknamed Warren “Pocohontas” over her claims of Native American heritage, blasted the Massachusetts Democrat on Twitter.

. . .

Trump’s all-caps reference to “trail” was widely taken as a reference to the “trail of tears” — the forced relocation of Native Americans following the passage of the 1830 Indian Removal Act.

Thousands of Native Americans died.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_Tears

The Trail of Tears was a series of forced relocations of Native Americans in the United States from their ancestral homelands in the Southeastern United States, to areas to the west (usually west of the Mississippi River) that had been designated as Indian Territory. The forced relocations were carried out by government authorities following the passage of the Indian Removal Act in 1830. The relocated peoples suffered from exposure, disease and starvation while en route to their new designated reserve, and many died before reaching their destinations. The forced removals included members of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Seminole, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Ponca nations. The phrase "Trail of Tears" originates from a description of the removal of many Native American tribes, including the infamous Cherokee Nation relocation in 1838.

Between 1830 and 1850, the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, and Cherokee people (including mixed-race and black slaves who lived among them) were forcibly removed from their traditional lands in the Southeastern United States, and relocated farther west. Those Native Americans who were relocated were forced to march to their destinations by state and local militias. The Cherokee removal in 1838 (the last forced removal east of the Mississippi) was brought on by the discovery of gold near Dahlonega, Georgia in 1828, resulting in the Georgia Gold Rush. Approximately 2,000–8,000 of the 16,543 relocated Cherokee perished along the way

“The Five Civilized Tribes were deeply committed to slavery, established their own racialized black codes, immediately reestablished slavery when they arrived in Indian territory, rebuilt their nations with slave labor, crushed slave rebellions, and enthusiastically sided with the Confederacy in the Civil War.”

The federal policy of Indian removal, which ranged far beyond the Trail of Tears and the Cherokee, was not simply the vindictive scheme of Andrew Jackson, but rather a popularly endorsed, congressionally sanctioned campaign spanning the administrations of nine separate presidents.

The shitneck in the WH is a racist. He doesn't deny it either. And his actions prove it. He had the Portrait of Jackson placed over his shoulder in the Oval Office.

I think we may have to accept that we'll probably have to just remove anything left that holds any value and then burn the WH down to cleanse it of this evil.

It was heart-breaking to human beings to see the two gentlemen standing there while he flushed humanity down the tubes, and exposed himself as a raving hate machine. The expression on his face revealed an insane demon posturing as a head of state.

He shamed himself. The two men he used as objects didn't lose face at all.

He also shamed a country which would have allowed something that monstrous to swagger into the highest office in the land.

Native Americans called Andrew Jackson ‘Indian killer.’ Trump honoured Native war heroes in front of his portrait
By ELI ROSENBERG The Washington Post
Tues., Nov. 28, 2017

WASHINGTON—The prominent placement of an Andrew Jackson portrait during an event meant to honour a group of Native Americans at the Oval Office on Monday has raised questions about the White House’s message.

Jackson is known for his harsh treatment of Native Americans as president, famously signing the Indian Removal Act, which led to thousands of Native American deaths as tens of thousands were forced to relocate. Some observers thought the juxtaposition of his portrait during the event with the stated purpose of honouring three Navajo code talkers was strange.

. . .

As president from 1829 to 1837, Jackson is perhaps most famous for his pivotal role in Native Americans’ painful and violent history in the United States. He signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, which forced the relocation of more than 60,000 Native Americans to clear the way for white pioneers. The act helped lead to the “Trail of Tears,” in which an estimated 4,000 Cherokee died during the harsh conditions of a long march during a forced relocation in 1838 and 1839. The Cherokees called Jackson “Indian killer”; the Creek called him “Sharp Knife.”

A slave owner, Jackson spoke about Native Americans as if they were an inferior group of people. “Established in the midst of a superior race,” he said of the Cherokee, “they must disappear.”

'He's Making Fun of Genocide': Trump Appears to Joke About Trail of Tears in Tweet Mocking Elizabeth Warren

"Putting particular emphasis on the word 'TRAIL' when mocking Natives is a sure nod to the Trail of Tears where thousands of Native people died."

by Jake Johnson, staff writer

In a tweet on Saturday mocking Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) with the racist nickname "Pocahontas," President Donald Trump appeared to make a joke about the Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of Native Americans in the 1800s that led to thousands of deaths.

"Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for president. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!" Trump wrote.

Trump's tweet, with its all-caps emphasis on "trail," was immediately interpreted as an intentional joke about the Trail of Tears.

. . .

While some pointed out that there are plenty of reasons to question Trump's knowledge of history, Politico reporter Cristiano Lima and others highlighted the president's recent joke about the Wounded Knee massacre and his idolization of President Andrew Jackson as evidence that the "trail" reference was deliberate.

Trump Revives Racist ‘Pocahontas’ Slur Against Warren, Donald Jr. Responds: ‘Savage!’
Like father, like son.

By Mary Papenfuss

President Donald Trump apparently wasn’t paying attention — or maybe he was — when Native American leaders blasted his “racist” use of “Pocahontas” as a slur against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). He resurrected it — again — Saturday in a tweet. But what was more startling was his eldest son’s response using a astonishing term: “Savage!!! I love my president!”

Trump wondered mockingly in a tweet Saturday if Warren would be the nation’s “first Native American presidential candidate” — denigrating both Warren and appearing to characterize the idea of a Native American candidate as unimaginable.

Warren has been criticized for referring to her Native American heritage. Though a DNA test last year indicated she likely had a Native American ancestor, she is not the member of any tribe. She apologized last week to the Cherokee Nation, whose leaders have said that being a tribal citizen is “rooted in centuries of culture and laws — not through DNA.”

Donald Trump Jr. responded to his father’s tweet on Instagram incorporating an astonishing term — “savage” — harkening back to the height of the nation’s racism amid massacres of thousands of Native Americans. He added: “I love my president.”

He was likely referring to the president’s comment as “savage,” but it was shockingly tone deaf — or a chilling deliberate choice...................................
