McConnell Talked Trump Off Ledge By Promising He'd Back Emergency Order

Source: TPM

February 15, 2019 7:40 am

Over the course of three phone conversations on Thursday Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) cajoled an unpredictable President Trump into supporting the bipartisan border funding spending bill by promising he’d make his caucus stand behind a national emergency declaration, The Washington Post reported.

In a freakout that a Republican senior aide described as “off the rails” to the Post, Trump threatened on Thursday afternoon to blow up plans to avoid another government shutdown by not signing the spending deal. But McConnell reportedly calmed Trump’s concerns, by not only vowing his support of a national emergency declaration, but also convincing Trump that Democrats were the real losers in the spending fight.............

I read there are 18 Repugs who criticized Trump and his declaring a Nat. Emergency. Lets see how fast they fall behind McConnell.

Reagan wasn't mentally in the game from the start. He was showing growing symptoms of Alzheimers from his first days in the White House. HW Bush and his "administration" took control and ran things under Reagan from the very start.
When all of them got indicted by the end of Reagans Term, HW got elected, immediately pardoned all of them and brought them into his administration. Then "W" Bush corruptly was installed in the Presidency. He was brain dead, (Alcohol and Cocaine) and Cheney and the entire administration that had served under Reagan, and HW Bush, were now installed, once again, in the W administration and off they went continuing decades of corruption and subverting our Govt. and Democracy. Everyone misses that THE COMMON ELEMENT of all this Republican crap for 30 years was HW BUSH. HW was with the CIA, then Reagans VP, then President, and then installed Cheney/Rumsfeld,/+ the same 100 treasonous bastards in his son's Illegally stolen presidency..........
Starting with the Reagan years, that entire administration could be sent to the Hague for international war crimes for deeds they did.
They started their treasonous acts with conspiring with Iran to get Reagan to win the Presidential Election, and didn't stop their Corruption of the U.S. Government and Treasonous acts from then, until now.

I truly believe, that if the Dem's and Gore had legally challenged the Supreme Courts decision to ILLEGALLY intervene in the Florida election, things may have possibly been different. Since they didn't take on the Republicans and The Supreme Court, here we are today, with the Republicans completely subverting Democracy to a Kleptocracy (sp?) Now it has grown into a Fascist State, run by the Corporations and their installed minions in the Government running things. We should rename the country into the United Corporations of America. People talk about 1984, but it wasn't the Government vs the people which was portrayed in 1984, it was the Corporations vs. the people.

If George Bush 1 had as much power as you say, then why couldn't he get elected to a second term? I think the common element you're looking for is the libertarians, like the Koch Brothers and many others. They've been behind all of this, starting with Reagan, Bush 1, Cheney, Bush 2 and now the Trumpuglicans.

These rich old guys are (hopefully) dying off soon and we'll be rid of them for good and all.

I swear the Dems need to act now to launch impeachment hearings and not wait on Mueller. With Barr installed at Justice and Whittaker his wingman/henchman, that Mueller report will never see the light of day unless he surreptitiously sends copies of it to the Dems in the House judiciary committee and the New York Times and Washington Post. Otherwise we'll not only be looking at another six years of this shitstorm but forever after rethug rule. They never intend to leave Washington, D.C.

He did not have to agree to a national emergency to get Trump to sign the bill. If Trump vetoed it, there was no way the House and Senate would let that veto stand and force another givernment shutdown. The veto would have been overridden. We would probably be at the same point with Trump declaring a national emergency after his veto was nullified, but what game is McConnell playing by maneurvering his caucus into supporting a national emergency when he clearly did not need to do so?

When history finally ends on this, it will show that the Republican Senators were as corrupt as anything, along with certain House members. The Senators and House members are the ones enabling Trump, and have taken as many, if not more, in illegal campaign finance donations from the Saudi govt, the Russians, (via the NRA) and the Chinese. McConnell is up to his ears in campaign finance donations from his wife's families money from China.............

Everyone is focusing on Trump, thanks to our Republican owned mass media. Where they should be looking is at all the total corruption by the Republicans being accomplished behind the smoke screen of Trump and his daily antics.

f**king 'take' to get this through their heads? Just proof of how dense, bigoted, and unpatriotic they are (look at how long it took them to reprimand one of their own, King of Iowa).

rump is pandering to his base but in the process he's lost a great majority of almost all other Americans. These so called rabid voters of rump constitute a small minority of Americans, e.g., 24%. This means that 76% of us are against rump and all he stands for (bigotry in all shapes and sizes, ignorance of fact-based governance, ignoring the rules of law, etc.).

What people are missing is the GIANT fact that Mueller investigates and has no power to prosecute all the corrupt individuals, including Trump, Republican House and Senate, administration, appointees, etc etc etc.
The DOJ is in charge of prosecutions, and the entire DOJ is owned by the Republicans, and if it is challenged in courts all the way to the Supreme Court, we know how they will rule. That is why it was SO critical for them to get Gorsuch and Kavinaugh "installed" at any cost.............
