Alabama again denies application of would-be abortion clinic operator (was bombed by Eric Rudolph)

Source: CNN

An abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, remains closed after a state hearing officer denied a prospective new owner's appeal to reopen the facility, made famous in 1998 when it was bombed by Eric Robert Rudolph.

In April, state regulators ordered the New Woman All Women Health Care facility closed citing "multiple and serious violations of State Board of Health rules."

Then-owner Diane Derzis agreed to turn in the facility's license to operate and closed the clinic May 18. She said the problems at the clinic were documentation issues. No patients were ever in danger, she said in July.

She agreed to lease the building to Kelley Rain-Water, a friend, but the state denied Rain-Water's license application because of her relationship with Derzis.

protesting en masse? I don't understand how 52% of Alabama's population can be shit on like this and we don't hear a peep about massive protests. I'm sorry but if this happened in California there would be a backlash heard around the world.

Is there ANY reason for me to EVER go to Alabama?

The fact that there is no mass protest there... is just another reason why I just don't give a shit about Alabama.

If you live in Alabama.. escape!

There are tons that think they deserve the right to choose, but even most of those are right wing crazies. I have lived here 26 out of the 29 years I have been alive and it doesn't surprise me there are no protests. Sucks that Alabama has so many great things in it but is so bound by the shackles of religion and ignorance that they can't see what is for their own good.

Fix them and they have to pass you. Even if they are "just paperwork" they can be addressed. Moreover, the inspection should be public record so someone should get it and publish what it says. If its just obstruction crap, that will be quite clear.

The cited article also cited the current owner as saying "I will get this clinic back open". A good thing.
